Permanent Full-Time – 40 hours per week
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
This is a responsible position that ensures the compatibility of all new development as well as its compliance with regulations, objectives and planning strategies.
The position requires an in-depth knowledge of the Town’s Municipal Plan and Development Regulations along with other policies and regulations of the Town and their application to all building and development activity and proposals. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing all applications for new residential, commercial/industrial development for the purpose of assuring compliance with municipal requirements. The incumbent is responsible for preparing reports and documents for consideration of Council with respect to development proposals.
The position will frequently be a front line of contact with the public and requires the incumbent to employ diplomacy and tact, as well as the ability to deal professionally with the public.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from university with a degree in Planning or a related field with a minimum of two years’ experience directly related to land use planning or development control, or any equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable to the Town. Course work in geographic information systems, drafting design, statistics, urban geography, sociology and economics would be an asset.
- Experience in a municipal or local government environment.
- Knowledge of regulatory processes as it pertains to zoning and development applications is required.
- Knowledge of relevant provincial and municipal legislation, policies and programs with ability to integrate and utilize knowledge in planning and development projects.
- Experience with appearing and giving evidence before administrative tribunals and appeal hearings under authority of the Urban and Rural Planning Act, 2000 is an asset.
- Excellent organizational, communication and report-writing skills and demonstrated ability to deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment and to adapt to a demanding and dynamic work environment.
- Strong experience and understanding of community planning practices, principles and procedures, land use planning legislation, land use planning and preparation, public engagement processes and the ability to integrate and utilize knowledge in rural and urban planning settings.
