About the Opportunity
A growing and highly respected legal services firm is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Legal Bookkeeper to take ownership of the organization's day-to-day financial operations. This is a critical position responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing trust accounting, overseeing payables and receivables, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing financial reporting to leadership.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations using QuickBooks Online (QBO) and legal practice management software.
- Manage and reconcile trust accounts in strict accordance with Law Society regulations and compliance requirements.
- Oversee the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, approvals, and payment execution.
- Monitor upcoming payment obligations and proactively communicate cash flow concerns to leadership.
- Process client invoices, track outstanding balances, and follow up on overdue accounts professionally.
- Process payroll and employee expense reimbursements accurately and on schedule.
- Prepare and submit GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and other statutory obligations.
- Develop and maintain cash flow forecasts and provide regular financial updates to management.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports.
- Coordinate with external accountants during year-end and audit-related activities.
- Ensure financial records are accurate, compliant, and maintained with the highest level of confidentiality.
- Seek clarification when needed and exercise sound judgment when managing financial matters.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, within a legal environment.
- Strong understanding of trust accounting and Law Society compliance requirements.
- Experience independently managing GST/HST filings, payroll remittances, and related statutory obligations.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online (QBO), Clio, and Plooto will prove an asset
- Solid understanding of cash flow management, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently while effectively communicating with leadership.
