About the Opportunity
This position works under the general supervision of the Department Leader - Family Services and is responsible for assisting members of the Early Intervention Program (EIP) team in the delivery of clinical services. Intervention plans may be developed by any member of the Early Intervention team and will primarily be provided by the Behaviour Consultant. The Therapy Assistant is responsible for implementing intervention plans, documenting client progress, and consulting with the Behaviour Consultant or other Early Intervention team members when adjustments to the intervention plan are required.

What You'll Do
- Follows the Intervention Plan developed by a member of the Early Intervention Team (Behaviour Consultant, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, or Speech-Language Pathologist) to provide direct clinical services to clients aged 0-5 years.
- Gathers, develops and prepares materials, resources and equipment required to implement the Intervention Plan.
- Provides support to parents/caregivers by modelling strategies included in the Intervention Plan.
- Recognize and support families in their role as decisionmakers on behalf of their children and themselves. Maintain collaborative communication with families.
- Follows established guidelines to document interventions and client progress.
- Maintain collaborative communication with EIP team members to shares information about client progress, successes and challenges with the Early Intervention team members. Requests support and consultation when needed.
- Functions as part of the Early Intervention team and the Family Services Department, participating in team, department and All Staff meetings.
- Ensures knowledge of family-centred, strengths-based and relationship-based interventions is current by participating in training, in-service, journal review and consultation or coaching with other team members.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 graduation.
- Minimum one (1) year of related experience working with young children, preferably in a clinical or community setting.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have completed a Therapy Assistant, Rehabilitation Assistant or Behavioural Interventionist training program.
- Access to a reliable vehicle and a class 5 driver's license.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to implement intervention plans developed by other clinicians, including making observations about client progress.
- Ability to develop and maintain rapport with clients.
- Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision.
- Access to reliable vehicle.
- Physical ability to perform duties of the position
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Exhibited aptitude in time management, task prioritization and organization
- Understanding of child development and the impact of diverse abilities on development.
- Demonstrated knowledge of family-centered practice and relationship-based interventions.

Travel Requirements
This position involves travel throughout the Fraser Valley to provide services in homes, childcare settings, community locations and FVCDC offices. Work-related travel time and mileage are reimbursed in accordance with Centre policies. This position is based in Abbotsford/Mission.
