Reliable Equipment Rentals Ltd. provides aerial equipment rentals and services to valued customers throughout southwestern British Columbia.
The Apprentice Welder & Fabricator is responsible for inspecting, repairing, and fabricating components for aerial lift and rental equipment, with a primary focus on routine and lower-complexity welding and fabrication work. Working from established drawings, work instructions, and repair procedures, this position performs structural repairs, component fabrication, equipment modifications, and preventative maintenance activities while ensuring all work meets company quality standards and applicable safety requirements.
Full-time, fixed-term contract (40 hours per week) for approximately 4 months, with the possibility of extension based on operational needs.
Monday to Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM

Responsibilities and Duties:
- Inspect overhead cranes and report deficiencies or safety concerns.
- Perform routine welding repairs on baskets, platforms, attachments, and structural components.
- Repair defects identified through Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as assigned.
- Cut, fit, grind, prepare, and weld materials using approved welding procedures.
- Fabricate standard components and assemblies using existing drawings and specifications.
- Complete approved equipment modifications to improve functionality, safety, and durability.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, sketches, and work instructions.
- Verify completed work meets quality and safety standards.
- Escalate complex structural repairs, unusual damage, or fabrication challenges to the Shop Foreman or Senior Welder & Fabricator.
- Operate welding and fabrication equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and organized condition.
- Follow all company policies, safe work procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Proficiency in MIG welding; TIG and stick welding considered an asset.
- Experience performing routine welding and fabrication work.
- Ability to complete assigned work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and work instructions.
- Good understanding of fabrication techniques and welding procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to producing quality workmanship.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a team.
- Physically capable of performing shop work, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
Experience, Training, Certification and Education:
- Welding certificate, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- Experience performing routine fabrication and welding work.
- CWB certification considered an asset or willingness to obtain.
Working Conditions:
- Indoor shop environment with exposure to welding fumes, noise, and industrial equipment
