Responsibilities
· Review repair orders, customer concerns, maintenance history, and technical bulletins to understand required work and confirm repair priorities.
· Inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot vehicle systems using road tests, visual inspections, scan tools, diagnostic software, meters, pressure gauges, and other specialized equipment.
· Repair, replace, adjust, and service components related to engines, drivetrains, fuel systems, brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, emissions, cooling, heating, air conditioning, electrical, and electronic systems.
· Perform scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, fluid services, filter replacements, tire rotations, tune-ups, inspections, and manufacturer-recommended maintenance.
· Test repaired systems and components to confirm performance meets manufacturer specifications and safety standards.
· Complete accurate documentation of diagnostics, repairs performed, parts used, labour time, inspection findings, and recommended future repairs.
· Communicate required repairs, safety concerns, timelines, and technical findings clearly to the Service Advisor, Service Manager, and other team members.
· Identify additional maintenance or repair opportunities while maintaining professional, ethical, and customer-focused recommendations.
· Use shop equipment, hoists, hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and specialty tools safely and responsibly.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company policies and occupational health and safety requirements.
· Support apprentices and junior technicians by providing guidance, mentorship, technical direction, and quality feedback when required.
· Stay current with evolving vehicle technology, diagnostic procedures, manufacturer repair information, hybrid/electric vehicle considerations, and industry best practices.
Experience
· Valid Automotive Service Technician Journeyperson certification required.
· Red Seal Endorsement preferred or considered an asset.
· Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on automotive repair and diagnostic experience preferred.
· Strong diagnostic ability with computerized vehicle systems, electrical testing, drivability concerns, and mechanical repairs.
· Valid driver’s licence with a clean or acceptable driving record.
· Ability to read and interpret repair manuals, wiring diagrams, service bulletins, inspection checklists, and manufacturer procedures.
· Experience using scan tools, diagnostic software, alignment equipment, battery testers, A/C machines, torque tools, and standard shop equipment.
· Own set of professional hand tools suitable for journeyperson-level automotive repair work.
· Commitment to following safety procedures, environmental standards, and proper handling of hazardous materials.
