Duties & Responsibilities
- Liaise with Field Crew Managers to ensure projects and field resources are aligned.
- Define fieldwork project scope including potential risks and complications associated with working in the area.
- Define client scope and considerations for field survey work (site managers, safety managers, orientations etc.) for Field Crew Managers.
- Provide technical support for Field Crews where the Field Manager is unable to answer job specific questions/concerns.
- Oversee data processing as required, and review completed field work to ensure the quality and scope of the survey is in alignment with professional standards and subsequent BASE standards.
- Support and oversee ongoing process improvement for BASE field survey standards and procedures, providing regular feedback to the Field Crew managers, supporting their role in survey quality and employee training.
- Support BASE CAD Operators and Managers outlining deadlines, deliverables, and job specific circumstances.
- Quality Assurance and plan checking, as required.
- Provide timelines and participate in the assignment of drafting for optimization of CAD Operator skills set(s).
- File finalization, signing of legal plans (as required).
- Provide guidance for BASE Project Supervisors.
- Actively participate in ALSA and ABCLS activities to support industry growth and personal development (if applicable).
- Represent BASE at various industry and client related functions for Business Development (IRWA, CHBA, etc.).
- Maintaining personal development and retraining requirements associated with professional designations.
- Supervise, mentor, and train assigned Party Chief’s and Survey Assistants.
- Support the performance review and development process for all assigned Party Chief’s and Survey Assistants.
- Manage, schedule, and oversee staff workloads and deliverable management for assigned Field Crews.
- Manage project schedules, budgets and all related client communication for assigned projects.
- Analyze project scope and accurately estimate labour, material, and time requirements for project.
- Prepare Service Agreements and Requests for Proposals (RFP) in accordance with BASE quality control standards.
- Contact subcontractors for pricing as required.
- Submit estimates, quotes, RFP’s, bids, and agreements in a timely manner.
- Submit scope changes as required by client.
- Gather required information and documents for project initialization such as signed agreements, client billing information, PO’s/client reference numbers if required, accounts payable contact for invoice submission, main contact/PM, etc.
- Review invoices for monthly billing as per agreed upon service agreement.
- Review project profitability monthly and at completion to ensure estimates are being submitted at competitive, but profitable rates
- Actively support and provide feedback for BASE’s Health and Safety Program as it relates to legal or oil & gas survey projects and industry standards
- Additional duties as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or Geomatics Survey Program
- 2+ years’ experience working as a Field Survey Technician / Party Chief
- 5+ years' experience as a project manager (preferred).
- Registered member or eligible for registration as a professional member with the Alberta Land Surveyor’s Association (ALSA).
- Strong working knowledge of field survey technology, equipment, and related field and software applications.
- Complete working knowledge of the Alberta Land Surveyors Manual of Standard Practice and the Association of British Columbia Land Surveyors Manual of Standard Practice.
- Preference will be given to those who are experienced and/or proficient in their use and application of: AutoCAD Civil, Trimble Business Centre, Leica Geo Office, Geowiz, and Industry related Land Title and Mapping databases.
- Working knowledge of CAD requirements and acceptable accuracy/tolerance levels.
- Advanced knowledge and application of Division specific industry related legislation and regulations.
- Strong understanding of Division specific related government and non-government organizations (i.e., ALSA, LTO, AER, SRD, etc.).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Proficient desktop computer skills (email, PDF editing programs, etc.).
- Proficient in BlueBeam Revu (Preferred).
- Experience establishing and maintaining client relationships.
- Class 5 Driver’s License with no restrictions.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $110,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
