Our client, Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (“SOAHAC”), are currently seeking a Temporary Medical Administrative Assistant for their busy practice location in Owen Sound, ON. The successful candidate will assist in providing a positive, welcoming environment for community members, visitors, individual clients, their families and staff. They will provide medical, administrative, technical and clerical support to SOAHAC team members in various programs including but not limited to, Palliative Care and Midwifery.
This is a temporary position that is estimated to run for approximately 4 weeks, but could be longer for the right candidate. Straight dayshift Monday to Friday with wage starting at $23.26 per hour.

About the Role
- The Medical Administrative Assistant will help maintain SOAHAC’s core values in the provision of culturally safe care. Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Creating a warm & inviting reception for community members, visitors, individual SOAHAC clients & families
- Aiding & supporting in the processing of referrals to specialists, laboratory & procedural appointments, & pharmacist inquiries
- Ensuring proper notification of medical appointments & medical correspondence
- Maintaining a computerized client encounter system by inputting & updating information into PSS (Telus) on a regular basis
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Graduate of a Medical Administrative Diploma or equivalent
- 3 - 5 years knowledge/experience working in an Indigenous multi-service health & wellness environment preferred
- Possess a thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology
- Extensive computer literacy with prior experience utilizing medical scheduling considered an asset
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
- Willingness to assist other SOAHAC sites as needed
- Valid driver’s license or access to reliable transportation
- Ability to obtain/ maintain a current and clear vulnerable sector police check is a condition of employment
- Willingness to learn Indigenous Cultural Safety & other ongoing cultural learnings/ teachings
