Job Summary
Riverside Concrete Forming Ltd. is a growing construction company specializing in concrete forming and related construction services. Our continued growth is supported by disciplined financial management, accurate reporting, strong operational controls, and close collaboration between Finance, Operations, and Project Management.
We are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. Reporting to the president, the Controller will oversee financial reporting, job costing, cash flow management, budgeting, internal controls, and construction accounting while providing practical financial insight to support project and business decisions.
Position Summary
The Controller will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the accounting function and will play a key role in strengthening financial processes as Riverside continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Month-End Close
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes.
- Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Oversee general ledger integrity, account reconciliations, accruals, and intercompany transactions.
- Provide management with meaningful financial reporting, variance analysis, KPIs, and business insights.
- Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities and communicate recommendations to leadership.
Construction & Job Cost Accounting
- Oversee construction accounting, including job costing, cost coding, work-in-progress, and project reporting.
- Monitor project costs against budgets and identify variances and potential issues.
- Work closely with Project Managers and Operations to review budgets, commitments, change orders, and forecasts.
- Support accurate forecasting of project costs and profitability.
- Oversee construction draws, holdbacks, progress billings, and related accounting requirements.
- Help establish and maintain consistent job-costing processes and reporting standards.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cash Management
- Lead annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes.
- Maintain accurate short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.
- Monitor project cash requirements, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and working capital.
- Provide leadership with clear visibility into upcoming cash requirements and financial performance.
- Support banking relationships, financing requirements, and lender reporting where applicable.
Controls, Compliance & Audit
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve internal financial controls.
- Maintain appropriate approval processes, segregation of duties, and financial documentation.
- Coordinate year-end audit and external accounting requirements.
- Support tax compliance processes, including HST and other applicable filings, in partnership with external advisors.
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures are consistently followed.
Team Leadership & Process Improvement
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting team.
- Establish clear month-end procedures, deadlines, and service standards.
- Improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and financial systems.
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in AP, AR, payroll, reporting, and other accounting functions.
- Develop standardized financial reports and dashboards for management.
- Support the implementation and enhancement of accounting/ERP systems as the company grows.
Qualifications & Experience
- CPA designation required, in good standing or eligible.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience in construction, concrete forming, development, or another project-based environment is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of job costing, work-in-progress, project accounting, construction billing, draws, and holdbacks.
- Experience managing accounting for multiple projects, entities, or business units is an asset.
- Strong Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Operations, and senior leadership.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet strict reporting deadlines.
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and accountability.
Experience:
- Accounting: 7 years preferred
License/Certification:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA): preferred/required
