About the role
As an Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements. This position is ideal for someone who is ready to take on responsibilities that sit between junior and senior accounting work—preparing accurate financial information, contributing to month-end and year-end processes, and reviewing the work of junior team members to help ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency.
In this role, you will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of programs, ensuring revenue, expenses, accruals, and balances are accurately recorded and analyzed. You will work closely with operational stakeholders to investigate variances, resolve discrepancies, and support a timely month-end close in a dynamic financial services environment.
This role is best suited for someone who thrives in a structured environment, enjoys problem-solving, and can effectively manage competing priorities during month-end close periods.
About the day-to-day
- Lead aspects of monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Prepare accurate journal entries, reconciliations, and analyses.
- Manage accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of programs, including revenue recognition, expense analysis, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Analyze trends, investigate variances, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to resolve discrepancies and ensure financial data integrity.
- Review Junior Accountant work for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare internal financial statements and variance explanations.
- Support regulatory and statutory reporting requirements.
- Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for internal and external audit requests.
- Contribute to month-end close activities within tight reporting timelines and provide meaningful variance commentary.
- Coordinate with internal audit and external auditors.
- Assist with indirect tax reporting, including GST and other sales tax-related activities
- Support process improvement initiatives, system implementations, and other ad hoc projects across Finance.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and controls.
About the qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- CPA designation in progress or completed (preferred); candidates nearing CPA completion are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Financial services, banking, payments, or other regulated industry experience considered a strong asset.
- Experience supporting month-end close in a deadline-driven environment
- Experience reviewing junior staff work.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances and reconcile complex financial information.
- Self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly, take initiative, and work independently.
- Positive attitude and ability to handle multiple deliverables with tight deadlines.

About the work environment:

Hiring process:

Compensation:
The expected salary for this role is approximately $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 annually. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and qualifications.
