Brampton Crematorium & Visitation Centre is looking for an experienced Financial Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations during an exciting period of growth. Position Overview:
Reporting directly to ownership, the Financial Controller will oversee all accounting and financial operations while providing accurate, timely, and meaningful financial information that supports strategic decision-making.
The successful candidate will supervise our Bookkeeper, work closely with our external CPA firm, and lead initiatives that improve financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Produce comprehensive monthly reporting packages for ownership and senior leadership
- Analyze financial performance and identify trends, risks, and opportunities
- Prepare cash flow reports and working capital analysis
- Deliver timely and accurate financial insights to support business decisions
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual budgeting process
- Develop rolling forecasts and financial projections
- Monitor budget performance throughout the year
- Prepare budget-to-actual variance analyses with actionable recommendations
- Support long-term financial planning
Financial Analysis & Business Performance:
- Develop and maintain executive KPI dashboards
- Analyze revenue, profitability, and operational performance across multiple locations
- Identify opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency
- Present financial recommendations to ownership and senior leadership
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee daily accounting operations
- Supervise and mentor the Bookkeeper
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and reconciliations
- Manage cash flow forecasting and treasury activities
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records
Internal Controls & Process Improvement:
- Strengthen internal controls and approval processes
- Improve accounting workflows and reporting procedures
- Recommend automation opportunities to improve efficiency
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable accounting standards
Year-End & Compliance:
- Lead year-end financial preparation
- Coordinate with the external CPA firm
- Prepare audit working papers and supporting schedules
- Assist with tax filings and regulatory reporting
- Ensure compliance with all financial reporting requirements
Key Qualifications:
- CPA designation (CPA, CA, CPA, CGA, or CPA, CMA)
- Minimum five years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Experience preparing financial statements and management reporting packages
- Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Experience developing or improving accounting processes and internal controls
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail
Preferred Experience:
- Experience in a multi-location organization
- Experience within a family-owned or entrepreneurial business
- Experience implementing financial reporting systems or process improvements
- Previous experience supervising accounting staff
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar ERP systems
