About the Position
Blue Universe Communications is looking for Telecom Tower Technicians to join our growing team. We work on a variety of wireless telecommunications projects involving towers, rooftops, communication structures, and related equipment.
This is a hands-on position suited to individuals who enjoy working outdoors, are mechanically inclined, and are comfortable working at heights. We welcome technicians at different stages of their careers, including entry-level candidates interested in developing their skills in the telecommunications industry.
Key Responsibilities
As a Telecom Tower Technician, your responsibilities may include:
- Erecting, assembling, and modifying communication towers and related structures using appropriate rigging and construction equipment.
- Installing, replacing, maintaining, and repairing antennas and wireless communication equipment.
- Setting and verifying antenna azimuths, mechanical/electrical tilts, and other required antenna configurations.
- Installing antenna mounts, transmission lines, connectors, surge protection devices, TMAs, and other RF equipment.
- Installing and testing grounding and bonding systems for both above-ground and underground applications.
- Performing RF transmission line installation and connectorization.
- Installing and aligning microwave dishes and completing required path alignment.
- Assisting with steel structure assembly and general site construction activities.
- Performing maintenance and troubleshooting on existing telecommunications equipment.
- Using hand tools, power tools, rigging equipment, and specialized telecommunications equipment safely and effectively.
- Following project specifications, engineered drawings, safety procedures, and industry standards.
- Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Performing other duties related to telecommunications construction and installation as required.
Training & Technical Knowledge
The following education, training, or experience is considered an asset:
- College, vocational, technical, or equivalent industry training.
- ANRITSU Site Master training or approximately two years of experience working with ANRITSU testing equipment.
- Experience using coaxial cable preparation and connectorization tools.
- Andrews coaxial connectorization training or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of microwave dish installation, orientation, and path alignment.
- Understanding of antenna azimuth, mechanical tilt, and antenna installation requirements.
- Training or experience with RF testing and telecommunications equipment.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous telecommunications, tower, RF, or construction experience. Entry-level candidates may be considered for our training/Green Level opportunities.
- Experience with tower erection, antennas, microwave dishes, RF transmission lines, copper, and/or fibre systems is an asset.
- The ability to work safely and confidently at heights and, when required, in confined spaces.
- The ability to read and understand blueprints, construction plans, and engineered drawings.
- A basic understanding of wireless communication systems and telecommunications infrastructure.
- Familiarity with standard telecommunications installation practices and procedures.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and good manual dexterity.
- Experience safely operating hand and power tools.
- A basic understanding of electrical systems and electrical safety.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- A valid driver's licence and a satisfactory driver's abstract.
- Reliable transportation; use of a personal vehicle may be required depending on the project.
- Flexibility to travel to various work locations and work evenings, nights, weekends, or extended hours when project requirements dictate.
- The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- A positive, dependable, and professional attitude.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
