TRANSIT DRIVER
Accessible Care Transit is hiring reliable and compassionate Transit Drivers to provide door-to-door accessible transportation for residents of Region of Peel on behalf of the TransHelp. Probationary salary: $19.00 per hour + Incentive Pay
Full Time salary: $20.00 per hour + Incentive Pay
Position Summary:
- Transport and assist passengers to-&-from appointments and essential services using company vehicles & other duties assigned.
- Responsible for the safe operation of company vehicles, safety of all passengers and respect for other users of the road.
- Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, including the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA); safely operates mobility ramps, maneuvering & securing devices, using safety restraints in accordance with established protocols.
- Conduct daily vehicle safety inspections and prompt report any deficiencies to supervisor
- Promptly reports all deviations, incidents, accidents, and unusual occurrences to the dispatch office and submits detailed written reports as required.
- Deliver high quality customer service with professionalism, respect, and compassion.
- Maintain and adhere to schedules and abide by Highway Traffic Act, policies, and procedures.
- Represent Accessible Care Transit in a positive and professional manner at all times.

Selection Criteria:
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Completed Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class "G" Driver's License in good standing.
- 2-years of strong face to face customer service skills as demonstrated through previous work experience.
- 3-year driver’s Abstract (with no infractions, offences, convictions, demerit points or accidents – no exceptions) dated within 4 weeks of your application.
- 8-year Auto Insurance Experience (10 years preferred). MUST have a clean driving record with no At-fault accidents within the past 10 years.
- Must be able to possess a valid Standard First Aid and CPR (Class “C”) Certificate.
- Must be able to provide a clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (Level 3).
- Must be able to provide a pass Medical Screening and Functional Abilities Assessment from a licensed physician.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting with potential exposure to stressful situations related to passenger interactions and traffic conditions.
- Able to handle physical demands of the job. Able to work outside & in all weather conditions.
- Must be physically capable to assist passengers, Lift, Pull, Push and Shift body weight, store mobility devices, and assist with personal & grocery bags.
- Able to wear required personal protective equipment and use appropriate safety equipment to complete job tasks in a safe manner. Able to wear the required uniform.
Skills and Abilities:
- Previous driving experience an asset.
- Proficient in operating commercial-sized passenger vans in a safe and responsible manner.
- In-depth knowledge of streets and locations within the Region of Peel & surrounding areas.
- Possess strong motor coordination, adequate auditory perception, and accurate colour recognition essential for performing job duties safely and effectively.
- Must be safety conscious, risk adverse, and cautious
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service and a positive attitude to overcome difficult and tense customer interactions.
- Able to read, write, understand, speak English clearly, follow written rules & procedures along with verbal instructions.
- Strong time management and organizational skills. Able to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience and/or able to work with children, frail, elderly, and individuals with accessibility needs and language barriers.
