What a Bagel is Hiring: Bakery Associate (Oven Specialist)
What a Bagel is seeking a reliable and dedicated Bakery Associate to join our Back-of-House team. In this fast-paced role, you'll play an essential part in our daily operations, with a primary focus on managing our bagel oven and keeping our shelves stocked with freshly baked goods. Full training is provided.
About the Role
Our bagel oven operates as a single continuous process. Bagels are loaded onto a conveyor, pass through a boiler and oven, and come out ready to be sorted into their corresponding metal baskets. As a Bakery Associate, you'll manage this flow from start to finish, monitor stock levels, recognize peak demand patterns, and ensure baskets are always full and ready to serve. You'll also support our bakers with various tasks to keep the bakery running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and manage the bagel oven conveyor, ensuring consistent production and timely replenishment of baskets
- Sort finished bagels into their corresponding metal baskets as they come off the line
- Monitor stock levels and adjust production based on weekly demand patterns
- Assist bakers with dough preparation, mixing, and other related tasks
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations and bakery inventory
- Follow all food safety guidelines, temperature standards, and company procedures
- Prepare special customer orders as needed
Requirements
- 1+ years of baking or kitchen experience (bakery equipment experience is a plus)
- Valid Food Handler Certification
- Reliable transportation required, as shifts begin as early as 6:00am
- Ability to commute to 18295 Yonge St, East Gwillimbury
Shifts & Hours
- Morning shifts: approximately 6:00am to 12:00/1:00pm
- Closing shifts: approximately 12:00/2:00pm until bakery is cleaned and shut down
- This position starts part-time with the opportunity to increase hours over time
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods in a fast-paced environment
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks and working under tight deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and hand-eye coordination
