Job Summary
This hands-on leadership position reports to the Manager, Facilities Operations and will direct the day-to-day oversight of our Maintenance Shop, Caretaking and Delivery teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive technical expertise, a “can do” customer service attitude and the ability to positively lead a team to meet expectations. Previous experience supporting multiple building locations, including heritage buildings, required.
Working Conditions: Flexible schedule – must be able to work occasional weekends and be the lead on call person (24 hours per day, 7 days per week) responding to urgent and/or after hour situations at any Library location in the city. Multiple locations – this position is based out of our Maintenance Shop, but the successful candidate will typically travel in a Library vehicle extensively throughout the city on a daily basis. Physically demanding – the successful candidate will be required to have good mobility, lift a minimum of 50 pounds, setup and climb ladders, and work in high places.
Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Facilities Operations, assists the Manager, Facilities Operations in overseeing safe and efficient building operations activities and maintenance work.
Reports to: Manager, Facilities Operations
Supervises: Mechanical Maintenance Assistants, Building Maintenance Assistants, Shop Supervisor and assists with supervision of Caretaking staff.
Responsibilities and Activities
- Day-to-day oversight of the activities of staff in the Maintenance Shop and in the Caretaking areas
- Timely identification and implementation of efficient, safe and cost-effective maintenance and building operations programs.
- Renovation and refurbishment programs which are completed on time, within budget, and which meet Library needs.
- Active development and maintenance of effective partnerships with vendors, contractors, and other trades.
- Safe and efficient operation of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and life safety systems.
- To assist and fill in for the Manager, Facilities Operations as required.
Qualifications
Educational Qualifications: At least High School Diploma or equivalent, plus a Building Operator Certificate A or 4th Class Power Engineering, and/or Journeyman Trade designation.
Work Experience:
- A proven record of excellence of at least five years’ directly related recent full-time work experience, including experience in a supervisory position.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills and able to work with all levels of management.
- Superior communication (verbal and written), problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Strong analytical and decision making skills in understanding, evaluating and analyzing complex problems, and identifying the optimum solution.
- Advanced technological literacy skills including blue print, specification and operating manual reading and interpretation.
