Mechanical Design Engineer
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role is responsible for designing and developing custom Air Handling Equipment solutions that meet customer requirements while supporting manufacturing efficiency, product performance, and quality standards. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, electrical, and controls teams throughout the design and production process.
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
- Preparing submittal drawings for Custom Air Handling Equipment, sizing HVAC components and laying out the units to meet customer specifications.
- Developing detailed mechanical designs for HVAC Air Handling products.
- Collaborating with electrical and controls support teams in coordinating wiring and sequence of operation for specific orders.
- Drafting technical details including bill of materials, installation manuals, manufacturing documentation.
- Interacting with local and off-site manufacturing plants to resolve design problems encountered in production.
- Collaborating with manufacturing teams, other senior designers and engineers to optimize the designs for cost and manufacturability.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or diploma/degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- Experience in mechanical design and product development, preferably within the HVAC or custom equipment manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of HVAC engineering, manufacturing methods, product performance, and testing requirements; familiarity with electrical and controls systems is an asset.
- Understanding of sustainable building standards and air distribution technologies used in green building applications.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, product design standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks.
- Experience with sheet metal design and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems is considered an asset.
- Basic structural design knowledge is considered an asset.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to travel throughout North America as required.
