Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Transportation Rating & Brokerage Customer Service person to lead our freight rating processes and be part of our brokerage operations. The ideal candidate will oversee rate analysis, to ensure cost-effective, compliant, and timely transportation of goods.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage freight rating activities, including analyzing tariffs, classifying commodities, determining applicable rates/routes, and maintaining rate databases.
- Take part in brokerage operations: source and vet carriers, negotiate rates/terms, book loads, and coordinate shipments for on-time delivery.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, shippers, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor market trends, fuel surcharges, accessorials, and competitor rates to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize pricing strategies.
- Work with a team of rating analysts, brokers, and coordinators and KPI tracking (e.g., on-time delivery, cost per shipment, carrier performance).
- Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and other transportation regulations, including safety, insurance, and documentation requirements.
- Resolve disputes related to rates, claims, or service issues; conduct root cause analysis and implement process improvements.
- Prepare reports on transportation costs, savings, and performance metrics for senior leadership.
- Participate in RFPs, contract negotiations, and carrier onboarding.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or related field (preferred) but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in transportation/logistics, with at least 2–3 years in a role involving freight rating and brokerage.
- Strong knowledge of freight classification (NMFC), tariffs, rating systems, and brokerage best practices.
- Proven negotiation and analytical skills; experience with load boards, TMS (Transportation Management Systems), and rate analysis tools.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
- Familiarity with relevant regulations and certifications (e.g., TIA Certified Transportation Broker a plus).
