The load forecast is a foundation of BC Hydro’s Integrated Resource Plan and is used across the company for capital
planning, operations planning, revenue forecasting, and other functions. As Senior Load Forecast Advisor in the Industrial
Load Forecast team, you will be a key member of broader Load Forecasting group producing energy and peak demand
forecasts for BC Hydro’s industrial customers. You will be expected to produce load forecasts using well-established
modelling methods, and to develop new modelling methods to forecast emerging loads.
The main responsibilities associated with delivering timely and accurate forecasts include:
- Acts as a project leader for and/or conducts the planning, organizing, and implementation of forecasting studies for key
industrial sub-sectors such as oil and gas, mining, forestry, emerging industries (such as AI, data centres, hydrogen), load
and market research programs and customer surveys.
- Proactively identifies emerging drivers—including load, economic, customer, and end-use factors—that may impact future
industrial demand.
- Understands industrial customers’ expansion, electrification, and decarbonization roadmaps.
- Translates policy and regulatory changes into long-term load forecasting scenarios.
- Synthesizes and communicates load forecast information to the Executive and the Board, within Integrated Planning, and
synthesizes and communicates load forecast information to the Executive and the Board, within Integrated Planning, and
across BC Hydro, and to the BC Utilities Commission and Interveners through regulatory processes.
- Coordinates the efforts of consultants, data providers and department peers where necessary to facilitate the creation of
the industrial sector forecasts. Advises manager on budget requirements.
- Directs, develops and maintains economic models and relationships for use in delivering forecasts. Establishes and
ensures modelling methodologies are appropriate and carries out due diligence over data.
- Regularly monitors performance of existing forecasting models and processes. Monitor industry developments with
respect to models and forecasting methodologies. Make recommendations on incremental forecasting model and process
improvements.
- Proactively initiates builds, maintains and manages ongoing internal and external working relationships.
- Planning, organizing and implementing the annual forecast work schedule. Coordinating the integration of sector forecasts
within regional and system load forecasts; and coordinating the forecasting process with other critical and complex
company processes such as regulatory applications (e.g., revenue requirements) and capital planning cycles to ensure
alignment.
