Data Analyst (Summer Student)

This is a full-time summer student position, ending at the start of September 2019. The Data Analyst performs a variety of analytical and technical functions related to automated processes, data extraction, data analysis, model development, report generation, and market analysis to support our business needs.


  • Develop reports and tools for key stakeholders
  • Identify, investigate, and document possible root causes of trends, issues, and performance gaps based on analyses and campaign results to determine improvements and recommendations
  • Perform exploratory data analysis, data cleansing, and data visualization using data mining tools
  • Collaborate with internal partners to document data and reporting needs and designs and implements reporting using data sets from multiple internal databases
  • Write programs for data extraction; modify existing programs for data extraction
  • Create basic robotics using VBA. Use ODBC connections to link multiple database warehouses to retrieve data
  • Assist with the development of scalable, efficient, and automated processes for large scale data analyses and model development, validation, and implementation

Job Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a College/University with in a related field
  • Advanced user of Excel (incl. macros and advanced functions), Access, Sharepoint, VBA, ODBC Connections, and SAS or SQL; must be able to prepare and edit complex documents in Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience in database capabilities, relational database architectures, and visual analytics
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage tasks independently, take ownership of responsibilities, and consistently meet established deadlines
  • Ability to communicate results and insights, both verbally and written (including visual graphics) and in a clear and concise manner to a non-technical audience.
  • Strong decision making, attention to detail, and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; strong critical thinking skills with the ability to evaluate alternatives and present solutions that are consistent with business objectives and strategy
  • Ability to partner with senior team members to assess customer needs and define business questions
  • Demonstrated ability to use/apply process improvement concepts; emerging ability to influence customers to take action on analytical insights
  • Great team player; able to work with individuals and teams at all organizational levels
