The Environmental Technician supports environmental monitoring, compliance, and environmental management programs through field-based data collection, inspections, and reporting. This role plays a key part in ensuring regulatory compliance, accurate environmental data, and effective implementation of environmental protection measures at site. This position works a 14/14 schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure that safety procedures are followed.
- Conduct field-based environmental monitoring activities, including water quality and groundwater sampling, wildlife and bird surveys, vegetation and invasive plant surveys, and general environmental observations.
- Collect, handle, label, and document samples following approved procedures (Quality control), including completion of chain-of-custody forms and preparation for shipment to accredited laboratories.
- Calibrate, operate, maintain, and prepare environmental monitoring and sampling equipment to ensure readiness for scheduled programs.
- Maintain organized field records, including notebooks, photographs, GPS data, and electronic files, and provide timely data transfer to our database.
- Support field logistics, including equipment staging, inventory management, and preparation of sampling kits.
- Conduct routine field inspections (Erosion and sediment control, spills, waste storage areas (to support environmental permits and plan requirements.
- Support spill and incident prevention and response activities, including field response (e.g., deploying spill kits, containing releases), documentation, and completion of required reports.
- Contribute field-based input to the development and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and environmental management plans.
- Deliver field-level environmental awareness and best-practice guidance to site personnel, including spill prevention, wildlife interactions, and waste management.
- Participate in research activities as required.
Qualifications
- Certificate, Diploma, or Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Environmental Monitoring, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- 1–4 years of experience in environmental monitoring, environmental compliance, or a related discipline.
- Experience working outdoors in northern, remote, or industrial settings, with the ability to work independently in variable and inclement weather.
- Ability to safely navigate uneven, rocky, wet, muddy, or icy terrain while carrying field equipment.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate data collection and record-keeping.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. ARC GIS is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
