Summary:
Radio Western 94.9 FM is seeking an Administrative Assistant to, well… assist in administering our 6,000 watt campus and community radio station. The successful candidate will help with performing administrative tasks such as data collection and reports, acting as the main point of contact for our large (80+ person) volunteer base, overseeing scheduling and programming, volunteer training and other duties as assigned. The ideal candidate should be highly organized, detail-oriented, and should possess excellent communication skills and knowledge of the local music and arts scene. Additionally, the candidate must be comfortable working with new computer software and, eventually, with speaking on-air.
Time:
37.5 hours per week. This is a full-time salaried position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skill, and ability required:
Operational Responsibilities:
- Overseeing daily radio scheduling and programming on weekdays and weekends
- Managing administrative tasks such as filing on-air playlist logs, reports for performing rights organizations, and more
- Editing archived radio shows
- Teaching new volunteers and show hosts how to use station equipment and recording software
- Listening to new show hosts’ trial radio shows and providing feedback
- Assisting with special projects and events when necessary (occsionally on evenings and weekends)
- Completing other assigned duties as needed
- Ensuring compliance with all CRTC Rules and Regulations, The Broadcasting Act, Radio Regulations, 1986, and Radio Western’s own Policies & Procedures
Communications:
- Be a main point of contact for Radio Western
- Be the first point of contact for students and community members, and direct them to the appropriate department (e.g., marketing, sports and news broadcasting, management, etc.)
- Assist with web site content creation and management – creativity is good!
- Assist with training, management, and communications with Radio Western’s volunteers
- Report any volunteer misuse/misconduct to the Station Manager
Previous Experience/Qualifications:
- Experience in radio or other media industries could be an asset, but isn’t necessary
- Retail or customer service experience would be an asset
- Prior experience working/volunteering in local media (journalism, radio, etc.) would be an asset
- An interest in the London music and arts scene
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills are essential
- Familiarity with Apple macOS and iOS software is required, and some Windows knowledge helps
Working Conditions:
This position will require the candidate to be on-site, both in the station on campus and in occasional remote locations, and will require some evening and weekend work with occasional light to medium lifting.
