Job Overview
Ceres has become one of the largest organic specialty mushroom farms in the prairies, supplying most major grocers and distributors in Western Canada. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Farm Manager to oversee and actively participate in the daily operations of our indoor specialty mushroom farm in Crossfield, AB. The ideal candidate will have expertise in commercial mushroom farming operations, the ability to lead a team, and experience in managing a GFSI benchmarked food safety program. This role requires a hands-on approach and a commitment to maintaining our high standards of quality and efficiency.
Duties
- Assist Ceres' owner in managing all aspects of daily farm operations.
- Participate in daily tasks, including harvesting, packaging, delivery, and cleaning activities with production staff.
- Receive weekly orders from customers and plan daily harvesting, packaging, and shipping activities accordingly.
- Invoice customers in standard software.
- Daily maintenance of climate environmental conditions to ensure the quality and volume needed for each order (watering, adjusting airflow, temperature, programable settings and lighting).
- Supervise and train farm staff on existing standard operating procedures for crop production
- Complete all GFSI and COR Organic records to maintain audit readiness.
- Update records and SOPS as procedures are improved.
- Provide input to improve the farm’s process efficiency and improve yields.
- Maintain packaging, raw material, and consumable inventory. Order from approved suppliers so ensure appropriate supply at all times.
- Develop work schedules for hourly staff and manage variances.
- Ensure farm safety, food safety, security and bio-security procedures are followed by staff
- Other reasonable tasks and duties as required
Skills
- Extensive experience in mushroom production in Canada or abroad.
- Experience with GFSI or similar food safety program.
- Experience leading or managing a team.
- Highly organized.
- Strong mechanical knowledge for troubleshooting and maintaining equipment.
- Basic math skills for calculating yields, inventory, and other essential metrics.
- Experience with hand tools and power tools for various maintenance tasks.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $52,000.00 per year
Schedule:
- Monday to Friday
- On call
- Overtime
- Weekends as needed

- Crossfield, AB: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
