Shopify Retail is a startup within Shopify, building the software and hardware that powers retail shops and in-person sellers. Our innovative products and vast reach are changing the way in-person commerce is done, and our team is writing a new chapter in Shopify’s growth story.
When a merchant chooses Shopify to power their retail business, it’s the Retail Supply Chain team who will ensure that our hardware products are in the right place, on time, all the time. We are specifically responsible for the demand planning, procurement, supply planning, logistics, inventory management, and order management for all retail hardware products available to Shopify merchants globally.
In this role, we’re looking for a supply chain professional who will assist in managing the logistics aspect of our Supply Chain. You will be a key player on the Shopify Retail Supply Chain team with increasing ownership and oversight of the shipments, customs, relationships with our 3PL fulfillment centres, and inventory and master data management in general. If you’re passionate about global logistics and master product data, understand ERP/web integration and 3PL, and have a passion for supply chain in general, this role might just be right for you! The ideal candidate will be on Eastern Standard Time or comfortable with working on that time zone.
Plan and track shipments from manufacturers to 3PL warehouses and between 3PLs (request quotes from freight forwarders, organize shipment paperwork between manufacturers, freight forwarders and customs brokers).
Ensure products are QA tested and recorded before becoming pickable stock at 3PL.
Coordinate the proper receipt of products with 3PL partners and ensure that POs are received correctly in NetSuite and in other platforms.
Ensure invoices (freight, customs, product) are correct before submitting them for payment.
Maintain relationships between 3PLs, Shopify Fulfillment Network (SFN) and the Retail Supply Chain (RSC) team. This involves regular visits to 3PLs (when safe), contract management and pricing review in coordination with the RSC Lead.
Work with the Hardware Store Manager to set up new products with the corresponding 3PLs, Netsuite and other digital portals and tools.
Assist RSC Lead in managing our network logistics strategy and other logistics related projects.
Manage reverse logistics of return products stored at 3PLs returned back to manufacturers.
Inventory cycle and physical counts, serial number management.
Review inventory for all Shopify SKUs (1st or 3rd party hardware) regularly for low or out-of-stocks and communicate/escalate issues in a timely manner. Update hardware stores and any other portals with backorder information.
Develop necessary KPIs and reporting models to track performance and set targets. Analyze and identify factors contributing to variances of KPI targets.
Work with the Order Management team to solve order related issues with 3PLs.
Related work experience or equivalent education and experience in Logistics, Inventory, and/or other areas of Supply Chain Management
Knowledge of compliant international logistics procedures, Incoterms, and cross-border documentation
Ability to successfully source, review and negotiate freight and other quotes
Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, changing and collaborative environment
Experience in NetSuite (or other ERP) and familiarity and even obsession with technology, the technology space and hardware are assets
High attention to detail, passion for working with numbers
Passion for retail, commerce and merchant success
Ability to travel domestic & international (when safe to do so)
We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time.
IMPORTANT! Please Attach a Brief Response To the Applicant Question
You have been shipping with this freight forwarder for a while; their response time has been historically good and their rates were competitive. But today, after a week the global crisis hit, they are coming back to your quote request with a much higher rate (almost double) and telling you that they need an urgent answer as they may not guarantee booking with the vessel and keep this rate long. Please tell us your thinking process and how you’d approach this situation.
