Role:
The Damage Prevention Technician will identify, locate and mark underground hydro utility infrastructure by referencing utility prints and using specific locating equipment, and document the findings in a clear manner. The Damage Prevention Technician is a self-motivated, independent worker who is committed to safety.
Key duties include:
1. Locate underground hydro utility infrastructure and designate utility locations using locating equipment
2. Read and understand hydro utility maps, prints and aerial imagery as a guide, and confirm marked locations
3. Produce high quality sketches and reports of utilities and job site using AutoCAD software
Requirements:
- Secondary school diploma
- 3-5 years' experience as a Damage Prevention Technician performing hydro utility locates
- Employment background in civil, electrical engineering, construction, surveying, GIS or CAD
- Utility construction and/or electrical technology background or training is an asset
- Familiarity with safety procedures and legislation, committed to work safely
- Ability to use a variety of techniques and equipment to measure utilities (electrical, magnet, blueprint analysis, and/or radar)
- Sense of urgency
- Self-motivated, able to work alone
- Professional communication skills, including ability to communicate with coworkers in the field, Project Coordinators, and senior leadership
- Attention to detail
- Commitment to Health and Safety, following safe work practices
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
- Comfort working in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain and other elements
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and use of own vehicle
- Frequent travel to sites
Other Requirements:
As a safety-sensitive position involving field work, applicants must be comfortable working in a variety of environmental conditions, such as remote or isolated areas, uneven and/or varied terrains, working alone and in inclement weather (within safe and reasonable limits)
