Medical Imaging Technicians use x-ray and other imaging equipment to take images of injuries and diseases. Any or all of the following may be performed by Medical Imaging Technicians:
- Educating patients about the procedures that will be used during their examinations
- Getting patients and equipment ready for examinations
- Creating a diagnostic image for the detection of injuries or potential illnesses
- Administering radioactive substances (tracers) or x-ray contrast to patients
- Evaluating the quality of the images and executing equipment quality assurance testing.
About the role
Benefits and salary range
- Qualified MRI/Nuclear Medicine Technologists with one to six years' experience usually earn between $86,706 and $101,614 (plus enhancements for shift work)
- Qualified Medical Imaging Technologists with one to seven years' experience usually earn between $57,565 and $81,338 (plus enhancements for shift work)

Required qualifications and experience
To work in Aotearoa, New Zealand you will require appropriate registration
- Medical Imaging and Radiation Technologists need to be registered with the New Zealand Medical Radiation Technologists Boardand have a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- Solid experience of general imaging, preferably in a larger centre but this is not essential
- All applicants must be able to meet the conditions of registration with the NZ Medical Radiation Technologists Board

- Managing daily, weekly workload across multiple radiology areas

- Ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement in the delivery of radiology imaging services within the context of the wider radiology service
