Functional Lead, Meditech Expanse (Surrey, BC)

The Functional Lead champions and supports the planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of sustainable clinical information systems transformation related to the implementation of the MEDITECH Expanse system.
Located in the Surrey and working in collaboration with the Informatics Lead, Laboratory, MEDITECH Expanse, and clinical partners of the designated functional areas, the Functional Lead provides laboratory operations expertise to promote and lead the integration of computer and communications technologies with clinical change initiatives to enhance evidence-based clinical practices. This position collaborates with project stakeholders to design, build, and implement new technology, equipment, and systems; contributes to and supports change strategies to facilitate adoption, and use of MEDITECH Expanse.
What you will do:
Provides operational leadership to relevant leaders, physicians, and stakeholder groups to ensure laboratory information system design and future state workflows provide the best opportunities to support and transform laboratory practice across the continuum of care and all required programs, networks, diagnostics support services.
Promotes best practice related to laboratory informatics by collaborating with stakeholders to lead design based on best evidence and professional standards, meets organizational requirements, and evaluates and monitors success to ensure effective implementation of quality and system improvements.
Champions and provides operational leadership for the development, advancement and optimization of the MEDITECH Expanse system. Develops a strong collaborative relationship with stakeholders and provides operational leadership in utilizing information technology to support the MEDITECH Expanse implementation.
Ensures project objectives are accomplished through effective clinical project planning, design, build, implementation, and sustainment initiatives. Ensures the assigned sites/programs/networks are integrated with clinical planning and implementation processes.
Participates in various committees representing the needs and requirements of Laboratory to support the MEDITECH Expanse implementation.
Leads the process for developing, confirming and delivering the clinical specifications with input from nursing and allied health staff incorporated in the project design; ensures integration of clinical planning and decision making with the project.
Champions change and project management methodologies; develops education plan and provides education about the project to individuals, groups, organizations and communities as it pertains to successfully completing project deliverables.
Liaises and maintains effective relationships with various internal/external stakeholders including multidisciplinary teams, Programs and Networks.
Provides support and expertise to the project delivery team and project delivery committee on the development of integrated project charters, schedules and work plans to ensure successful implementation. Develops status reports, scope changes or decision requests as required.
Facilitates consensus with key stakeholders such as physicians, nurses, allied health staff, ancillary staff, FH leadership, and project leaders on the design standards and workflow changes.
Collaborates with MEDITECH Expanse teams, including the Project Management Office and Core Team leaders/members to achieve project deliverables.
Monitors the project budget and ensures timelines and budgets are adhered to.
Manages project resources with regular status reporting to the Project Management Office and other stakeholders as appropriate. Utilizes standard project management tools, methodologies, templates and risk mitigation plans for tracking and reporting progress.
Identifies risks and provides detailed analysis of situation; and escalates following established issues/risks escalation process.
Provides direction, leadership, guidance and support to designated project staff/consultants as required.
Accountable for working independently and collaboratively with teams to ensure assigned project deliverables are met.
Represents the interests of the Laboratory and the MEDITECH Expanse activities by participating in meetings and committees, as required provides regular status updates, project deliverables, and outcomes.
Performs other duties as required.
What you have:
Graduation from a recognized school of Medical Lab Science and Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) Certified.
Bachelor’s degree in a health-related discipline, plus seven (7) years recent, related experience in progressively more complex laboratory leadership roles, including five (5) years recent experience in health care project planning/development with a focus on clinical information system implementation.
Knowledge of MEDITECH Information Systems supplemented with courses in communications, project management or customer service preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Valid BC Driver's License and access to personal vehicle for business related purposes.
Skills you hold:
Demonstrated understanding of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology workflows.
Demonstrated working knowledge of clinical information systems and other ancillary solutions.
Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing clinical initiatives within a complex acute health care environment, including experience in change management initiatives.
Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.
Demonstrated ability to define, lead, plan, direct, manage, implement and evaluate clinical programs and processes in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to establish project timelines and milestones; ability to facilitate and negotiate a variety of issues and achieve consensus among shareholders.
Demonstrated leadership skills with proven ability to bring about change in a proactive manner and in working with an interdisciplinary team as well as with clinical leaders.
Demonstrated project management skills.
Demonstrated experience leading a team and fostering a respectful, motivating, and supportive environment.
Demonstrated experience with clinical informatics or digital technology in healthcare is an asset.
Proficiency in the use of a personal computer and applicable software applications including MS Project, Excel, Power Point, Access and Word.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
