The Senior Director is a key member of the AVP Learning & Teaching leadership team, providing strategic leadership for the Centre for Educational Excellence (the Centre) and serving as a vital link for stakeholders across all SFU campuses to advance the learning and teaching goals of the university. The Senior Director provides leadership and oversight of the Centre's divisions including: Curriculum and Instruction, Learning and Teaching Technology and Educational Analysis and Planning. The Senior Director will provide strategic leadership in developing resources and programming related to teaching diversification and enhancement for SFU instructors. The incumbent will also responsible for budget and personnel decisions, priority and planning activities, and effective communication with all stakeholders across SFU. Reporting to the Associate Vice-President Learning and Teaching, the Senior Director actively participates as a member of the VP Academic senior leadership team to define and operationalize strategic directions for the portfolio. The Senior Director is responsible for ensuring alignment of the Centre's goals and activities with institutional and Faculty-level strategic priorities. The incumbent also plays a key role in the development and long-term sustainability of SFU's learning and teaching support network, and determines methods by which the Centre can support the University's Academic Plan. The Senior Director will represent AVPLT's portfolio on internal committees; serve as a member of relevant regional and national professional organizations and societies; and contribute to a scholarly approach to learning and teaching and associated knowledge dissemination regionally, nationally and internationally.

A Doctorate (PhD or EdD) in a relevant field and ten years of related experience including experience teaching at the post-secondary level; significant experience in teaching development and support at the post-secondary level; experience leading course, curriculum, and/or program development, implementation, and evaluation activities in the both face-to-face and online environment; experience with the application of technology to teaching and learning in both the face-to-face and online environment; experience in financial management; experience building partnerships with key stakeholders and leading and supporting institutional change; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Excellent knowledge of educational theory principles of effective practice in undergraduate and graduate teaching and instructional design, in both face to face and online environments.
Knowledge of theory and practice for English language acquisition; excellent understanding of multicultural and international student needs.
Knowledge of challenges and opportunities in the evaluation of teaching.
Substantial understanding of methods to set and assess student learning outcomes and skill acquisition.
Excellent strategic planning, cost-benefit analysis, and resourcing skills.
Effective change agent who demonstrates sound analysis and good judgement.
Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, motivational, and management skills.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, team-building, collaboration, and project management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
