We are hiring a Material Handler for an indoor metal recycling operation. This is a hands-on role responsible for receiving, sorting, processing, and preparing recycled materials for shipping in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Position Overview
The Material Handler will work with a variety of recycled metals and support daily plant operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, physical stamina, and strict adherence to safety procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide professional customer service when customers arrive at the facility
- Receive incoming materials from public and industrial sources
- Sort and separate metals by grade and type (copper, brass, stainless steel, aluminum, and wire)
- Perform manual sorting to upgrade materials for processing
- Dismantle machinery and equipment when required
- Strip wire and operate shear equipment to extract clean metal for recycling
- Operate a counterbalance forklift to load/unload trucks and move materials within the facility
- Maintain cleanliness of the workplace, ensuring floors, bins, and work areas are free of metal debris
- Support general plant operations as needed
Required Qualifications (Strict Requirements)
- Excellent English communication skills (must be able to understand and communicate clearly on site)
- Knowledge of non-ferrous metals and ability to identify different grades
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately
- Comfortable working in a physically demanding, dirty industrial environment with exposure to hot and cold temperatures
- Valid counterbalance forklift license (mandatory – must be current)
- Health & Safety certification (or willingness to complete it through the Ministry of Labour website before or shortly after hiring)
- Must own CSA-approved safety footwear (all other PPE will be provided)
- Mandatory availability for Saturday mornings (this is a firm requirement)
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work in a team environment
Working Conditions
This position involves manual labour, repetitive physical tasks, handling heavy materials, and operating equipment in a metal recycling environment. Safety compliance is required at all times.

Pay: $20.00-$21.00 per hour
