Overview
McMurrich Sprouts Daycare is a non-profit Child Care Centre located in a TDSB building. We operate 9 programs which include Infants through to School Age children. We are seeking qualified Supply Cook staff to support the daycare centre by preparing and serving nutritious, age-appropriate meals and snacks for children when the regular cook is unavailable.
Candidate must have the following requirements: Food Handlers Certificate, Experience cooking for large groups, Clear Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check (within in the past 6 months), Updated immunizations as required by Child Care and Early Years Act. This role is essential in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy food environment that meets childcare nutrition guidelines and dietary requirements.
The ideal candidate is reliable, flexible, and comfortable working in a childcare setting, with a strong understanding of food handling practices and the ability to adapt to established menus and routines.
Duties
- Responsible for preparing meals as established by the full-time cook and Executive Director
- Follows all anaphylactic policies set in place by McMurrich Sprouts Daycare
- Is alert to all food allergies and restrictions of the children in the daycare and ensures alternatives are provided
- Responsible for reading all food ingredients and ensuring they are free of allergens
- Aware that all food served must have an expiry date on it and food served does not go past the expiry date
- Ensures health regulations and sanitary procedures are rigorously adhered to
- Documents temperature of food daily
- Ensures the safe storage of food and equipment
- Works collaboratively with program staff, Director and Executive Director
Requirements
- Clear understanding of the Child Care and Early Years Act, Canada Food Guide, and Quality Assurance Assessment and the ability to follow all expectations of these regulations.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the ability to meet the specifications of these Acts and any other regulations that applies to this work.
- Capable of maintaining neat and accurate records
- Able to communicate effectively both written and orally to children, parents, and staff.
- Able to carry/lift/move moderately heavy items
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Willing to work in conditions involving exposure to bodily fluids, infectious diseases, frequent high noise levels, occasional inclement weather.

Pay: $26.22 per hour
