British Columbia’s Children’s Hospital (BCCH) in Vancouver is the tertiary pediatric hospital for British Columbia, Canada. We care for the province’s most acutely ill and injured children and youth, provide developmental and rehabilitation services to children and youth throughout BC, and offer a broad range of health services and specialized health programs. These include the full range of pediatric surgical services, including quaternary care neonatal, cardiac, neuro, transplant and major orthopedic/spine reconstruction surgical services, as well as interventional radiology & cardiology. There is an anesthesia-led acute pain service, and sedation services for oncology, gastroenterology, burns & radiotherapy. BCCH is a leading acute care teaching facility and conducts research to advance health care through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and in partnership with the University of British Columbia.

The Department of Pediatric Anesthesia is seeking Fellowship (or equivalent) trained pediatric anesthesiologists with a passion for furthering the clinical and academic excellence of our group. Your appointment will include all clinical anesthesia responsibilities (except cardiac anesthesia) and participation in the activities of the acute pain service. It is expected that successful applicants will contribute to aspects of our academic mandate: quality improvement, education, research and Faculty development; and be active participants in our Clinical and Research Fellowship Program. Academic time is associated with deliverables and peer accountability.
Applicants will have completed a medical degree and anesthesia training recognised or assessed as acceptable by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia, as well as subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia. You must be eligible for licensure in British Columbia.
Current clinical expertise in pediatric anesthesia is essential. The ideal applicants will also bring one or more of the following:
formal research experience or training
formal education training
additional training / experience in pediatric pain medicine
additional training / experience in pediatric regional anesthesia techniques
Successful candidates will be recommended for appointment to the Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology and Therapeutics, University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Medicine. Academic rank will be dependent upon qualifications and previous experience.
