Position Summary
We are seeking a motivated Technical Inside Sales Representative that is experienced and interested in customer sales and technical / mechanical application engineering to join our team. Daily responsibilities require reading, review and interpterion of technical mechanical specifications, B.O.M’s and machining drawings of pumps and rotating mechanical equipment to assist in the preparation of quotations, processing of orders and responding to customer inquiries. The ideal candidate will possess previous experience in an inside sales role, experience with preparing cost estimates or other relevant experience in a manufacturing/sales environment. Knowledge of pumps, rotating equipment, or other technical products is required. Previous experience including: responding to customer inquiries; preparing quotes or cost estimates; processing orders; trouble shooting product performance inquiries & warranty claims, customer service; managing customer expectations. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude; an exceptional capacity to acquire technical knowledge; superior communication skills; the ability to prioritize and multi task ensuring; learn in a self-directed manner; a positive attitude and desire to succeed.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Quickly learn and continue to develop detailed knowledge of our products and the brands, sizes & models of pumps for which ABBA makes replacement parts and pumps.
- Provide technical support / customer service to: inside and outside sales, end users, sales reps and distributors
- Review, interpret and qualify inquiries from the customers while seeking additional information as required.
- Generating accurate cost estimations for quotations. Follow guidelines for pricing and profitability. Follow-up on quotes for the purpose of obtaining relevant feedback and winning orders.
- Ensuring all required information has been received and clarified, review technical product specifications and information against our engineering and historical resources in the form of both digital and hard copy records.
- Process orders through accurately entering data, specify required parts and machining variations, review and correctly select required drawings and accurately create/modify B.O.M’s for assemblies as per the orders requirements .
- Work along side Engineering on custom engineered proposals and projects from concept to completion.
- Investigate warranty claims and trouble shoot technical problems with customers.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Post secondary education in the field of: Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering, or similar with relevant experience. (Mechanical Engineering Technologist or similar diploma or degree)
- Minimum 2 years experience with both: a) business to business sales/inside sales experience, selling manufactured products and b) experience in a technical capacity such as applications engineering, technical support, field service for pumps or rotating equipment, or other relevant fields.
- Prior experience with pumps and an understanding of rotating equipment is highly valued
- Exposure or experience with technical products and technical sales
- Ability to read and interpret 2D CAD machining drawings, pump assembly drawings, technical specifications and technical product manuals.
- Prior experience with quote preparation, estimating and order processing entry.
- Proven experience working with customers and managing customer expectations.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written and strong telephone presentation skills
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- High level of attention to detail.
- Above average ability to perform basic math including experience with calculations of margin
- Excellent research skills, problem solving, and analytical skills are required. Strong lateral thinking skills and deductive reasoning skills.
- Ability to multitask, work on multiple projects at the same time, time management skills, self starter and self motivated
- Experience using precision measuring tools (verniers)
- Experience with SAGE ERP or other similar ERP software
- Proficiency with Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Preference to those with superior Excel skills
