Are you passionate about care coordination, staff education and quality improvement? The Newborn Screening Coordinator acts as the organizational lead for Newborn Screening (NBS), supporting daily operations while driving strategic improvements in documentation, staff education, and quality outcomes in partnership with internal teams and external stakeholders (e.g., Newborn Screening Ontario, MSH). This role provides leadership in newborn screening reconciliation, program oversight, and practice innovation to support safe, timely, and high-quality screening processes.
Here's what you'll get to do
Care Coordination & Program Oversight

Lead daily oversight of NBS completion and submission, ensuring adherence to timelines and follow-up (including repeat testing and 4'6-month follow-ups) with integrated quality checks, lab staff collaboration and proactive nurse rounding.

Facilitate communication across internal teams and external partners to ensure continuity of care

Oversee related screening programs (e.g., CCHD, biliary atresia) and support EMR (Epic) optimization
Clinical Expertise & Consultation

Serve as the organizational content expert for NBS reconciliation

Provide consultative support, education, and guidance to clinicians and stakeholders

Identify, analyze, and escalate safety risks and trends
Quality Improvement & Patient Safety

Promote a culture of Caring Safely through incident review, RCA participation, and coaching

Lead and support QI initiatives, including development of program drivers, KPIs, and monitoring systems

Collaborate with partners to design, test, and implement process improvements
Practice Change & Program Development

Support integration and evaluation of clinical practice changes to improve screening workflows and patient/family experience

Liaise across inpatient teams, ambulatory services, and provincial partners to advance standard work

Identify and address barriers to screening completion and compliance
Stakeholder Engagement & Education

Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, leadership, and external partners to achieve program objectives

Design and deliver education using varied modalities (orientation, unit-based, just-in-time teaching)

Participate in provincial working groups and contribute to program advancement
Patient, Caregiver & Staff Experience

Enhance patient and caregiver understanding of the NBS process, consent, and follow-up

Evaluate impact of practice changes and ensure alignment with patient, family, and staff needs
Here's what you'll need

Graduate of an approved Baccalaureate Nursing Program
-
Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.

Minimum 3 years of experience in paediatric nursing strongly preferred.

Relevant clinical experience in newborn screening, reconciliation, or related setting strongly preferred

Completion of CQuIPS or equivalent quality improvement certification required by start date

Demonstrated expertise in capillary blood collection and specimen quality preferred

Demonstrated strong project management and change leadership experience

Proven ability to lead interdisciplinary initiatives and quality improvement work

Demonstrated experience in education design and delivery across multiple formats

Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment

Familiarity with data analysis, KPI development, and program evaluation preferred

Proficiency in Excel (advanced skills an asset) preferred
