What Are We Looking For?
Reporting to the Area Manager and under the supervision of the Area Foreman, FortisAlberta is searching for six (6) month temporary labourers to assist in the construction, operation, and maintenance of our electrical distribution system. This will include learning to operate large equipment such as radial arm digger trucks, bucket trucks, service trucks, and other equipment. Temporary labourers will be expected to complete tasks assigned to them by Journeymen Power Line Technicians, such as repairing overhead power lines, operation of hand tools, and responding to customer calls.
Temporary Labourers will be working outdoors in all weather conditions in a highly physical role (including climbing powerline poles). A strong demonstrated commitment to safety is required, as well as excellent problem solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Please note there are two (2) positions based in Sherwood Park, AB.
Successful candidates will be required to complete four (4) days of training September 7,2021, at our Red Deer Employee Development Centre (EDC).
After six (6) months, successful incumbents may be indentured as apprentice Power Line Technicians (PLTs).

Proven ability to develop and maintain effective relationships; this includes excellent communication, interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Good teamwork skills; this includes team building and working as part of a team, and an ability to work under limited direction.
Capable of working outdoors, year-round, in a highly physical capacity.
Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
Qualifications we are looking for:
Grade 12 diploma with grade 12 math and grade 12 English is required.
A valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license is required.
An Alberta Class 3 driver’s license with an air-brake endorsement is considered an asset.
Previous experience or formal training in the electrical field is considered an asset.
A journeyman electrician certificate, power systems electrician, or electrical engineering technologist diploma is considered an asset.
Previous experience in a regulated electrical utility would be an asset.
Participation on a stand-by rotation with a Journeyman Power Line Technician is required.
There is a requirement to work with both operations and construction crews.
Travel away from home (overnight) will be required.
The successful candidate will be required to produce a copy of their High School transcript, high school diploma or trade certificate, a current driver's abstract and will be subject to a criminal background check.
This has been identified as a safety-sensitive position. All successful candidates will be subject to a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
Business needs dictate that you must live within the FortisAlberta service area within forty (40) kilometers of the assigned service point office or a distance that allows a maximum thirty (30) minute response time to the assigned service point office.
Successful candidates will be required to complete four days of training at our Employee Development Centre in Red Deer from September 7 – 10 at EDC.
