Position Title: Employment Consultant (YorkWorks)

The York Region District School Board delivers employment services to the community through funding from the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development’s Employment Ontario initiative. These YRDSB services are branded as ‘yorkworks’ and provide a full suite of employment services in the Stouffville and Sutton areas of York Region. These services reach out both to job seekers and to employers in responsive and innovative ways that help to create a robust workforce.
In accordance with the Employment Ontario Service Delivery Guidelines for Client Service Planning and Coordination, the Employment Specialist - Employment Consultant will:
Provide effective, individualized, and culturally sensitive employment services to job seekers in a relationship management model that moves them quickly to employment
Work with a team of professionals to move clients from unemployment to training or full employment in efficient time period
In collaboration with the client, identify an employability action plan which may include career planning, referrals, job search assistance and/or job placement.
Monitor and follow up with clients according to schedule to determine progress, identify service plan modifications, and additional services and supports
Monitor and provide input into database and parallel management system on a DAILY basis; provide statistics and relevant information for all reports in a timely and organized fashion
Be receptive to new ideas, value contribution of others, and take action to strengthen partnerships, support others and create opportunities for positive change
Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal and professional development
Must respond proactively and positively to targets and thrive under pressure and be passionate about people
Other duties related to the delivery of Employment Services
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
Post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources management, business, psychology, marketing or employment counseling;and/or at least 2 (two) years of related experience
Demonstrated experience in achieving targets, outcomes and placements
Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Excellent interpersonal, customer service, coaching, problem solving, and negotiation skills
Understanding of all aspects of employability including broad knowledge of occupations and current labour market conditions
Demonstrated knowledge of the Employment Ontario, Employment Service Delivery Model.
Strong organizational and file management skills
Advanced skills utilizing all Microsoft Office applications
Verbal and written fluency in English and the ability to speak any other language an asset
Reliable vehicle is necessary as position requires travel throughout York Region
Ability to work some evenings and occasional Saturdays if needed
