We are seeking a Senior Research Associate to join our Indigenous and Northern Communities research team. The successful candidate will be a skilled researcher with a mature, multidisciplinary understanding of the key challenges and opportunities in our knowledge area. The successful candidate will also have an ability to work constructively with different stakeholder groups and possess a proven track record for leading collaborative research with Indigenous partners.
Our team is developing a new research agenda that address several interrelated themes including Indigenous self-determination; economic and labour market development; institutional capacity development; corporate-Indigenous relations; and Indigenous finance and management. This position will contribute to delivering on this agenda and communicating our work to the general public and relevant decision-makers. Current projects have an emphasis on labour market and skills development within a northern and Indigenous context.

They will draw on a well-developed understanding of qualitative and mixed methods research methodologies and possess exceptional writing skills to produce high-impact, evidence-based products that inform decision-makers and provide actionable insights. They have an analytical mind, are adept and creative in addressing complex research problems, are self-motivated, practical and enjoy a multidisciplinary setting. They are comfortable collaborating with others, communicating complex ideas, presenting to large groups, and leading discussions on research and other relevant priorities.
We are a virtual organization and as a remote worker you must be comfortable and able to work 100 per cent of the time from a home office. To be successful as a remote worker you need to have a self-starter attitude, possess strong organizational and time management skills, and be a proactive communicator. About the Role
Some of the things you will do every day:

Lead, manage, and contribute to research projects of varying complexity.
- Utilize knowledge of advanced qualitative research methods, quantitative analysis, and an in-depth understanding of the issues confronting Indigenous communities.
- Analyze and effectively translate complex research results into clear, key messages for senior executives and decision makers.
- Anticipate audience needs and contribute to new research product developments.
- Collaborate with the members of the Indigenous and Northern Communities team to identify and help secure new project opportunities.
- Provide advice to team members, particularly on issues related to Indigenous economic and labour market development.
- Produce high quality, well written reports, articles and proposals.
- Chair and facilitate advisory groups for research projects.
- Communicate messages with confidence, credibility and authority, providing insights through presentations at conferences and meetings.
- Communicate effectively with partners, team members, colleagues, research advisors and external stakeholders.
- Work closely with the Director, along with our Executive Director and other Conference Board staff, including senior and junior researchers as well as external partners, to plan and execute research projects.
- Participate in internal and external meetings (some overnight travel is required).
- Demonstrate the organization’s values in all interactions with colleagues, stakeholders and customers.
About You
Required Skills and Qualifications:

Minimum of six years’ experience in a professional applied research context, or equivalent setting, with demonstrable use of both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in economics, economic development, business administration or a relevant social science discipline, (Indigenous studies, sociology, political science, etc).
- Strong project management and leadership skills.
- Ability to lead research design and primary data collection activities.
- Advanced writing skills with the ability to write clearly, concisely, and quickly.
- Experience working with a range of Indigenous stakeholders and familiarity with relevant ethical research protocols (such as OCAP).
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultural protocols and languages is an asset.
- Strong facilitation skills with demonstrated experience in chairing meetings and leading group discussions.
- Ability to effectively communicate key insights to various stakeholders and client groups.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Ability to set priorities, work under pressure, deliver high-quality products and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated success in handling multiple responsibilities and deliverables.
- A strong sense of teamwork, professionalism, and customer focus.
- Ability to travel in Canada is a requirement (when it is safe to do so).
- Bilingualism is an asset.

The salary for this position ranges from $74,800 to $101,200 CAD annually for candidates from any Canadian province or territory. Salaries are based upon candidate experience, qualifications, specific skillsets, as well as market and business considerations.
