VCA Canada Animal Hospitals is welcoming an Area Manager to join our team.

Provision of strategic leadership, mentorship and management to our Saskatoon hospitals; partnering with hospital leadership to ensure hospitals are appropriately staffed to ensure the highest quality veterinary care, and associate and client experience while maximizing profitability. Advocating in hospitals for VCA’s programs and initiatives, including community outreach such as The Pets Pantry and the Shelter and Rescue Program.
Responsible for building accurate budgets and leading the Saskatoon hospitals to achieve results. Identifying and implementing strategic initiatives and being a strong partner and communicator with hospital associates, clients, local DVM/RVT colleges, the VCA Support Office and our industry partners. Frequently visiting each hospital and connecting with the Regional Operations Director in the sister region of Edmonton.
The Area Manager is responsible for the overall performance of Saskatoon Primary Care hospitals, including all reporting and project deadlines. The Area Manager is also responsible for VCA Canada training initiatives (CareClub, DISC, Onboarding etc.) in collaboration with the Regional Operations Director for all Saskatoon hospitals. Responsible for the following hospital: All West. Any hospital managers hired due to growth in this area will report to the Area Manager.
The Area Manager will be the VCA liaison with the university and the RVT Colleges and WCVM working in collaboration with the VCA MedOps team on initiatives such as promoting VCA Academy, Student Rotations, Internships, and Tradeshows.
Administrative:
- Develop and enforce operational policies with leadership.
- Review and approve equipment assessments and business cases.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure adherence to hospital policies.
- Oversee report preparation, appointment scheduling, and inventory management.
- Monitor client reminders, database maintenance, and use of the Retriever App.
- Ensure accurate invoicing and monitor eSpot reports.
- Manage accounts receivable, hospital credit policies, and invoice approvals.
- Reconcile Controlled Drugs weekly and ensure compliance.
- Optimize hospital operations, including staffing, schedules, and maintenance.
Financial Performance & Reporting:
- Develop budgets and business plans with hospital teams.
- Review and resolve financial discrepancies; meet benchmarks.
- Lead regional meetings on financials and initiatives.
- Analyze costs and revenues; provide monthly reports to the Regional Operations Director.
- Regularly review and adjust budget notes.
Client Service & Marketing:
- Enhance client experience and promote insurance, CareClub, and Mollies.
- Engage in local educational events and handle client concerns.
- Promote VCA Canada’s image and ensure high standards in hospital appearance.
Human Resources:
- Recruit, coach, and manage high-performance teams.
- Oversee performance reviews, salary management, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure compliance with HR processes and local regulations.
- Facilitate training and development opportunities.
- Manage scheduling, time off, and associate recognition.
Communication & Strategic Planning
- Deliver onboarding and training; build relationships with educational institutions.
- Implement organizational improvements and manage resources.
- Maintain vendor relationships and maximize support levels.
- Prepare business plans and conduct regular reviews.
- Mentor clinic teams and liaise with the VCA Canada support team.

Working Conditions: General working conditions can include standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Additionally, the associate may be required to lift up to 40 lbs. The associate may also be exposed to the following: potentially fractious patients, emotionally stressful situations, unpleasant odours, pet bites/ scratches, loud noises, animal feces, and contagious diseases.
