Job Overview:
Earl Haig Community Daycare is located at 15 Earl Haig Ave in the fabulous East York/Upper Beaches community. We are a not-for-profit centre, licensed for 289 children ranging from newborn through age 10. We operate Monday through Friday, from 7:30am - 6:00 PM.
Due to new changes from the Ministry of Education, childcare centres can now hire individuals with a Child and Youth Diploma, a Recreation and Leisure Diploma, or individuals who are members in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), to be considered qualified staff in school age groups. We are currently seeking to hire two individuals to operate a solo program with 15 children ages 5-10. Qualified individuals that are not directly trained as a Registered Early Childhood Educator must be prepared to learn about industry specific requirements such as the Assessment for Quality Improvement documents, the Child Care and Early Years Act, and the ELECT document, to help guide and inform your pedagogical choices.
Duties:
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum and promote learning and development in areas such as language, math, science, and social skills,
- Create a safe and inclusive classroom environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and positive behavior,
- Provide individualized attention to each child to support their unique needs and learning styles,
- Collaborate with parents and guardians to ensure open communication and involvement in their child's education,
- Monitor and assess each child's progress, keeping detailed records of their achievements and areas for improvement,
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment,
- Follow all health and safety regulations
Qualifications:
- Must have a Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education and be registered and in good standing with the College of Early childhood Educators, OR have a Child and Youth Worker Diploma, OR have a Recreation and Leisure Diploma, OR be a member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers,
- Be proficient in English (both written and verbal),
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development principles and practices,
- Experience working with children in an educational setting,
- Excellent organizational and time management skills,
- be familiar with AQI and HDLH principles, as well as the CCEYA requirements (or willing and able to learn),
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment,
- Strong leadership skills to effectively guide and motivate children,
- CPR-C/First Aid Certificate,
- Capable of independent and self-motivated work flows within a collaborative team environment

The successful candidates will be required to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccinations, as well as have a new Criminal Reference Check conducted, an up-to-date CPR/First Aid certificate, and medical clearance to work with children.
Interviews will be held in person at 15 Earl Haig Ave, between July 23rd - August 5th. Expected start date is mid August, 2024.
Base pay is $23.85 per hour, and is supplemented twice a year through the Provincial Wage Enhancement program. Full-time positions include 15 days paid vacation per year (prorated from the successful completion of a probation period), 15 paid personal days per calendar year (prorated from the successful completion of a probation period), and a generous benefits package (dental/medical/paramedical/vision/therapy/life insurance/etc.) Shifts will include split shifts (example 7:30-11:30 and 3-6) and are 35 hours per week.
