Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Horticulturist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for plants and landscaping, with a minimum of 5 years experience in maintaining gardens and landscapes. This role involves working outdoors, utilizing both hand and power tools to ensure the health and aesthetic appeal of various plant species. The Horticulturist will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining vibrant green spaces, and will be responsible for directing a small team, reporting to management, driving a truck and trailer and will interact with clients.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain landscape projects, including gardens and green spaces.
- Operate company vehicles and machinery, including pulling a trailer
- Install hardscapes such as paving stones and retaining walls
- Perform regular maintenance tasks such as pruning, weeding, mulching, and fertilizing plants.
- Perform softscape installation including landscape edging, and plant material
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Monitor plant health, diagnose issues, and apply appropriate treatments for pests or diseases.
- Plan and execute irrigation schedules to ensure optimal water supply for plants.
- Educate clients or the public about plant care, landscape design, and sustainable practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience in landscape maintenance & installation.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools related to gardening and landscaping tasks.
- Knowledge of plant species, their care requirements, and environmental needs, including turfgrass.
- Strong physical stamina to perform outdoor work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Excellent attention to detail with a keen eye for aesthetics in garden design.
- A degree or certification in horticulture or a related field is mandatory (third year apprentices or horticulture students may be considered).
- 5 years driving experience, preferably with light duty trucks and trailers and clean abstract are mandatory.
