Vacancies: 01 Regular Full Time
Located at the Region's Waste Management Facility in Scugog at 1623 Reach Street, Port Perry. The hours of work will be Tuesday to Saturday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.
Lead Waste Disposal Clerk - Operations
The incumbent will:
- Oversee the operation of the waste management facility ensuring policies and procedures are followed and make certain all documentation regarding site specific issues are accurate and maintained
- Conduct regular site safety inspections of the facility, identify and rectify any problems or concerns
- Prepare purchase requisitions for consumables and safety supplies for the facility; analyze and reconcile invoices and follow-up where necessary
- Monitor and maintain account expenditures and provide accurate information during budget preparation
- Prepare shift schedules and assign work to ensure the facility is properly staffed
- Complete attendance records, maintain accurate records according to collective agreement and other related policies, prepare daily time register activity sheets and analyze and solve discrepancies as they occur
- Prepare memos and reports regarding site related issues, information for tender specifications, etc.
- Communicate with staff, Supervisors, Contractors, stakeholders and other departmental staff regarding site related issues
- Attend meetings regarding site related issues such as repairs or site construction and monitor work being performed by contractors
- Communicate effectively with the public to explain policies and deal with complaints and general enquiries
- Participate in the orientation of new employees to ensure understanding of policies and procedures
- Provide relief and coverage for Waste Disposal Clerks by performing their duties including operating all on- site equipment
- May be required to provide coverage at the Brock and Oshawa Waste Management Facilities, as well as attend regular meetings at the Regional Headquarters
- Maintain site in a clean and safe manner
- Perform other related duties assigned
Applicants must have:
- Minimum grade 12 diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Several years of related experience.
- Experience in the operation of on site equipment, such as loader, forklift etc. as well as knowledge of traffic control and household hazardous waste handling procedures
- Experience working with Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Teams, Outlook), PeopleSoft (FIMS, HCM) and site related software such as computerized weigh scale systems
- Knowledge and understanding of the various Regulations that govern the operations at the solid waste management sites
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer service skills
- The ability to maintain legible and accurate records with excellent mathematical skills
- The ability to work with minimum supervision and resolve problems in a positive manner
- A valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License and the regular use of a reliable vehicle
- A current/satisfactory criminal reference check
Hourly Rates
- Start Rate: $39.93 - Job Rate: $40.63
