- 1 Permanent Position
- 1 Temporary 10-Month Contract Position

Job Summary
Covers staff coffee breaks and lunch breaks throughout the day and fill ins for primary caregivers when they are away for sick or vacation leave. Helps with the general cleaning and laundering at the facility. Responsible for the proper supervision & safety of the children in all rooms. Responsible for following the room schedule.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Primary supervision of the children in their room
- Diapering of children, as needed
- Administering necessary medications to children following the appropriate procedure
- Facilitating and following the children’s room schedule & emergent curriculum plan
- Helping facilitate activities such as: art/drama/gym games/free play and so forth
- Caring for the child’s personal; social; emotional; physical and intellectual development and completing Nippissing Developmental Assessments
- Aiding as a mediator in child disputes
- Enforcing rules, guidelines and moral codes of behaviour
- Maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness within all spaces used
- Maintaining the upkeep of the room. Helping alter and update this in a timely fashion, so it’s pleasing to the eye and retains the interest of the children within the program
- Forming a basic relationship with all parents involved in the program. Learning which child belongs to which parents and a little concerning their family circumstances
- Dealing with minor issues concerning parents and the program
- Maintaining the philosophies and beliefs of both the program and the HSCA as a whole
- Basic documentation concerning our children and issues within the program (see accident/incident reporting policy).
- Maintaining staff documentation and recommended records as required
- Attending all staff meetings as mandatory
- Updating other staff members where necessary, on all aspects of the program including child issues/parental issues/the program in general
- Consistent and appropriate use of the Communications Books to record and pass on all required information to absent staff members
- To show a basic understanding of key licence codes and to be able to show these in everyday operation (ex: emergency evacuation procedure, lock down procedure, etc.)
- To ensure our children have as much fun as possible in a safe and controlled manner without harm to themselves, others, or the physical environment
- Knowledge of the HSCA policies
- Take down and set up of the daycare rooms in the morning and evenings
Employment Requirements:
- Early Childhood Education Certification (Level 1, 2, or 3)
- Daycare / Out of School Care experience
- Vulnerable sector Police Clearance
- Knowledge of Alberta Child Care Licensing Acts & Regulations
- Knowledge of and proficiency with Emergent Curriculum planning
- Monday-Friday availability for floating shifts. Earliest shift schedule starts at 7:00am and latest schedule going until 5:30pm. Schedule will change from week to week.
Relationships
- Display a positive work ethic, a kind demeanour, and positive attitude towards the children, fellow staff, and parents
- Ability to communicate openly and clearly with staff and parents
- Liaise with parents concerning the behaviour and wellbeing of their child(ren)
- Assist with primary child guidance and discipline (in accordance with the HSCA Child Guidance Policy)
- Developmentally Appropriate interactions with the children according to the Caregiver Interaction Scale
- Accepts diverse opinions and backgrounds
- Accepts criticism and willing and open to work on oneself
Problem Solving
- Situations of challenging child behavior will require an additional skill set and experience in child behavioral guidance and consulting the Manager/Alternate Manager if needed
- Recording Accidents & incidents following the procedures and notifying the Daycare Manager
- Staff or Parent behavior that is inappropriate or threatening should be reported to the Manager/Alternate Manager and recorded in the parent communication book
- Able to resolve conflict with staff or parents when necessary
Authority
- Make all decisions regarding the daily supervision of the children in their care and the execution of their schedule & emergent curriculum plan when subbing in for primary caregivers
Accountability
- Informing the Manager of incidents/accidents or situations as required
- Reporting to the Manager regarding their personal work schedule & responsibilities
- Safety & well-being of the children in their care
- Meet & maintain licensing and accreditation standards and regulations in particular child/care-giver ratios
Special Circumstances
- This position must book vacation time outside of the vacation times of the primary caregivers. Vacations will be treated on a first come basis, but support staff may not book vacation if one staff has already booked off.
Performance Indicators
- Bi-annual performance reviews will be conducted by the Manager using feedback from other caregivers and using ECERS and the Child/Care-Giver Interaction Scale
- Regular meetings and check ins will be held with the Manager
- The manager will provide necessary coaching on the floor as needed
Pay: From $15.50 per hour
