Under general direction, the HR Consultant will support the operational and strategic human resource needs of academic Departments, Centres, Institutes, Schools, Colleges and programs within the Faculty of Arts & Science portfolio. The incumbent will partner with clients to provide a full range of HR services; providing advice and support to departmental managers and administrators in regards to non-academic staff. Specifically, the HR Consultant will advise on all HR policies, practices and procedures related to the management of non-union and unionized administrative staff including recruitment and selection; organizational change; performance management; problem and conflict resolution; staff training and development; job design and job evaluation; and salary administration. Responsibilities also include interpretation, application and administration of the USW and CUPE 3261 Collective Agreements, PM, AP and SRA/RA employment policies and employment- legislation including the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Employment Standards Act; providing recruitment advice and assistance to clients; providing advice and guidance on complex organizational change and restructuring; reviewing client concerns and objectives, outlining options and approaches and partnering with clients to facilitate change processes; analyzing, evaluating and classifying positions; and contributing to attendance and disability management plans and processes as a member of a cross-functional team.
The incumbent will work closely with the Senior HR Consultant, to support new, creative strategic initiatives and special projects and to guide junior staff.

University degree in a relevant discipline and course work in the Human Resources field leading to the completion of the CHRL designation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five (5) years progressively responsible and related human resource experience.
Demonstrated experience developing strategy, providing expertise and overall management to complex restructuring activities.
Experience with collective agreement and employment policy interpretation and application.
Demonstrated experience with unionized and non-unionized job evaluation, compensation and recruitment methodology and practices.
Sound knowledge of human resources best practices and employment related legislation.
Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications; familiarity with HRIS systems.
Proactive and energetic customer-service orientation with an awareness of and sensitivity to diversity.
Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities within tight deadlines.
Superior verbal and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, demonstrated ability to identify, gather information and data, present options and partner with clients to effectively and creatively resolve complex human resource matters.
Excellent judgement; strong initiative and ability to work independently.
Tact, empathy and confidentiality in dealing with difficult or sensitive situations.
Ability to work collaboratively as part of the Faculty of Arts & Science, Human Resources Office.
