Position Name: Machine Operator (Printing/ Extrusion/ Bag Making)

Job Overview
A Machine Operator is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day production of flexible packaging manufacturing.
New team members would be trained in new state-of-the-art and highly automated manufacturing equipment in various processes. This position follows safety rules and work instructions while fulfilling work orders to achieve consistent quality of finished products.
A Machine Operator should be a quick learner, someone who works well under deadlines, mechanically inclined and a trouble-shooter.
We are currently looking for candidates with machine operating experience in the following areas:
- Printing Press
- Extrusion & Lamination
- Pouch & Bag
Hours of Work:
Rotating 8 hour shift every 2 weeks from Monday to Friday (Days, Afternoon, Nights) with weekends off.
Responsibilities (General)
- Assist in the operations of various manufacturing machines.
- Assist Operators in all aspects of the production and packaging process.
- Comply with good housekeeping standards and procedures to follow GMPs and HACCP procedures.
- Work in accordance with all Health and Safety policies and established rules of the Company.
- Practice safe behavior with regards to equipment and tasks.
- Knowledge of production schedules and deadlines.
- Assist in the set-up of flexible packaging equipment in accordance with product specifications and machine tolerances.
- Read, understand, and follow production dockets closely that outline product composition and operation.
- Run the machines efficiently while maintaining quality.
Responsibilities (Printing)
- Responsible for operating the press at the projected production rates, conducting appropriate setups, and troubleshooting press-related issues
- Read dockets, and printing layouts to understand the material composition and operation towards a finished product.
- Knowledge of production schedules and deadlines.
- Adjusts the speed of the press according to run
- Responsible for producing the entire printing job correctly that specify the types of ink, plate and material that should be used for the printing.
- Preventative Maintenance on printing presses
- Mounting cylinders and making necessary adjustments
- Co-ordinates and directs machine assistant/s to maintain or improve efficiency.
- Regularly inspect machines for performance and perform basic preventative maintenance, such as lubricating and cleaning machines.
- Follow various rules and regulations relating to safety, production, quality, and product safety.
- Record various information on reports including production, quality control, and product safety.
- Comply with good housekeeping standards and procedures to follow GMPs and HACCP procedures.
- Practice safe behavior with regards to equipment and tasks.
Responsibilities (Adhesive Lamination)
- Measure and test product and identify defects in product.
- Read and comprehend work order, accurately complete “First Off Check Sheet,” produce product to work order specifications, dimensions, box quantities, pallet configurations, label information, placard information, etc.
- Run speed (rolls/lbs./pks per hour) maintained.
- Make labels.
- Maintain budgeted scrap levels.
- Complete Quality check sheet and Production sheet accurately.
- Understand machine mechanics.
- Job setup or changeover on machine with minimal supervision.
- Familiar with downstream equipment.
- Close work orders (remove job packets, placard for partials, remove materials).
- Identify E-stops and safety sensitive areas.
- Co-ordinates and directs machine assistant/s to maintain or improve efficiency.
- Regularly inspect machines for performance and perform basic preventative maintenance, such as lubricating and cleaning machines.
- Follow various rules and regulations relating to safety, production, quality, and product safety.
- Record various information on reports including production, quality control, and product safety.
- Comply with good housekeeping standards and procedures to follow GMPs and HACCP procedures.
Responsibilities (Pouch Packaging)
- Set up equipment in accordance with product specifications and machine tolerances
- Operate various manufacturing machines to produce high quality products that meet customer specifications
- Able to follow a production schedule and be flexible when priorities and assignments change
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections as required
- Comply good housekeeping standards and procedures to follow GMP’s and HACCP
- Work in accordance with all Health and Safety policies and established rules
Qualifications (General)
- Previous experience operating the same or similar equipment. Experience in flexible packaging industry is a strong asset.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Basic math and computer skills are necessary.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods.
- Mechanical aptitude is an asset.
- Must be flexible working 3 rotating shifts (Days, Afternoons, Nights).
- Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Safety minded.
- Effective communication skills in verbal and written form.
- Ability to follow directions closely and function as a part of a team.
