Overview of the position:
The Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety of duties related to the overall care of adults residing in our Supported Living Homes. This includes direct care of program individuals and implementation of individual plans (IP) and behavior plans (BP).
Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Providing a home-like environment for people being supported, ensuring that the individual’s rights are maintained, explained, encouraged and respected.
- Working as part of a support team to meet all needs of those in the location. This can include bathing, toileting, meal preparation, medication administration and support within the community for appointments and events.
- Carrying out programs.
- Record maintenance such as occurrence book, individual logs, incident reports, behavioural tracking, etc. through various platforms.
- Performing all duties in a responsible and safe manner and providing a safe environment for the individuals we support.
- Establishing and maintaining an excellent working relationship and rapport with the people we support, their families and colleagues.
To be considered as a candidate, the successful applicant must have the following minimum qualifications and experience:
- A certificate, diploma or degree in the health sciences field which may include, but is not limited to, DSW, SSW, PSW, etc. is preferred but not required
- Experience in a community living setting providing support for those with developmental support needs is preferred, however it is not a requirement.
- Availability to work various shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays.
- Current valid ‘G’ drivers license with a reliable automobile to be used during the course of employment, required.
- Demonstrated excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
- Proficiency in both the English and French languages is an asset.
- A Criminal Reference Check with Vulnerable Persons Screening (no older than 6 months)
- Ontario Ministry of Transportation Driver’s License Abstract
- Copy of valid CPR/AED certificate or proof of enrollment
Compensation Package:
Various rotations and hours, including casual positions, are available. Hours and days of work vary including asleep overnight shifts, weekends and holidays.
- Probationary hourly rate of pay: $25.38/hour or $28.49/hour for successful candidates who possess a Developmental Services Worker (DSW) diploma
