Multimedia Web Designer (6-months Contract with Possible Extension)

The role of the Multimedia Web Designer will be to work closely with internal stakeholders in the production and presentation of resources and professional development activities in a manner that results in inspiring, engaging and informative and social experiences including podcasts, webcasts, developing new methods for delivering print, all in a dynamic password protected (Drupal 6) environment. You know and understand the importance of effective UX and UI design but also know how to create breath-taking experiences that will stimulate the acquisition of knowledge and return site visits and usage. You understand how to keep content fresh and have experience balancing content updates while creating new assets and experiences. To accomplish these goals, a key requirement of the position is the ability to read music and play an instrument.

Identifies and articulates design solutions for a variety of projects.

Presents creative concepts to internal teams and clearly communicating them with a focus on design and user experience.

Engages with stakeholders, suggests presentation strategies.

Development of wireframes, workflow diagrams, mockups and prototypes.

Uses Adobe Creative Suite, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop, Apple Final Cut Pro, and other video and audio editing and compression programs as need to present engaging content.

Edits and manages media elements created with webcam technology, screen casting and podcasting, streaming audio and video formats and techniques to deliver a dynamic user experience.

Leverages Web 2.0 tools, community tools, video technology, presentation tools, surveys and embeds multimedia content.

Uses graphic design prowess and PDF authoring to develop and deliver elegant text presentations.

Ensures design works across multiple platforms taking advantage of the unique characteristics of each technology.

Collaborates with the developer towards the creation of interactive elements.

Uses eye for typography, whitespace, and other details that occur at the intersection of design and code to ensure a seamless experience.

Performs usability testing on design work.

Uses tagging strategies, anchors and headers for seamless information retrieval.

Collaborates with members of the Digital Learning team (works with Moodle LMS), contributes towards delivery of other projects as needed.

Enthusiastically supports and contributes to the success of the organization.

5+ years of experience in interactive and / or user experience design.

B.A., college diploma (3-year program) in a related discipline, and documented on-going professional development courses and activities.

Strong understanding and ability in the design process.

Experience with UI/UX design practices.

Knowledge of SEO and site optimization processes and strategies.

Knowledge and experience with Web 2.0 technologies.

Hands-on experience with open source CMS applications such as Drupal 6.

Knowledge of key web technologies such as: HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP and an understanding of HTML5 and current web best practices.

Proven expertise in Adobe Creative Suite: (Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design).

Nice-to-have experience with After Effects.

Knowledge and experience in iconography, infographics, photography, motion, video editing and rich media.

Knowledge of QA techniques, processes and tools to ensure websites meet visual and technical standards, across different browsers and platforms.

Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.

Highly organized and energetic self-starter with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Adaptable and innovative team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to handle a high volume of work in a short period of time, handle multiple priorities simultaneously and operate in a demanding work environment is important.

A current portfolio demonstrating multi-platform design abilities.

Ability to read music and play an instrument.
