We are seeking an experienced HSE Coordinator to lead, maintain, and continuously improve our safety program while partnering with field operations, leadership, and employees to strengthen our safety culture across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead and administer all aspects of the company's Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Management System.
- Promote and strengthen a proactive safety culture through regular field presence, coaching, mentorship, and engagement with employees and leadership.
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation, COR requirements, client expectations, and company policies.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and behavioral safety observations to identify hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, documentation, corrective actions, and follow-up.
- Develop, review, and maintain Safe Work Procedures (SWPs), Hazard Assessments, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), safety manuals, forms, and training materials.
- Coordinate and support COR certification activities, internal audits, external audits, and annual program reviews.
- Deliver safety orientation, toolbox talks, legislative updates, and ongoing safety training to employees.
- Provide guidance to supervisors and project teams on hazard assessments, safety planning, and project-specific safety requirements.
- Manage WCB claims, return-to-work programs, and injury management processes.
- Monitor safety performance metrics and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committee activities and maintain required documentation.
- Support project prequalification submissions and client safety requirements.
- Build strong working relationships with employees, clients, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies while serving as a trusted safety resource.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, or a related discipline.
- NCSO designation or equivalent professional certification is required.
- LSE (Leadership for Safety Excellence) is required
- CSTS 2020 is required
- COR Auditor certification is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive construction health and safety experience, including experience leading safety programs, COR audits, incident investigations, WCB claims and return-to-work programs management. Previous supervisory or leadership experience is considered an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Experience leading COR programs, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience developing Safe Work Procedures, Hazard Assessments, and other safety documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and experience using safety management software; experience with fleet telematics/HOS systems is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage employees at all organizational levels.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence with a clean driver's abstract.
- Standard First Aid Level C (or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of WHMIS, Fall Protection, Leadership for Safety Excellence (LSE), Injury Management, and Respiratory Fit Testing.
