We are seeking a driven Retail Team Leader who is passionate about sales, thrives on coaching others, and leads from the floor. In this role, you will use our foot analysis technology, product expertise, and proven fitting process to help customers find boots they love while building a high-performing team.

Position Summary
The Team Leader supports the Store Manager in driving sales performance, developing a high-performing team, and delivering Red Wing’s Legendary Ultimate Fit experience. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on coaching, merchandising execution, and daily operational excellence, with clear accountability for achieving store KPIs and elevating the customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Performance & KPI Ownership
- Partner with the Store Manager to continuously evaluate sales performance and inventory turnover to achieve monthly and quarterly goals.
- Drive store performance against Red Wing Corporate KPIs:
- UPT: 1.8
- DPT: $260
- Care Products to Boots: 100%
- Accessory to Boots: 14%
- Footbed to Safety Footwear: 40%
- Monitor daily results and coach the team to close performance gaps.
- Maintain strong awareness of market, product, and sales trends.
Team Leadership & Coaching
- Lead from the sales floor by modeling best-in-class selling behaviors.
- Coach, motivate, and provide real-time feedback to elevate team performance.
- Support the Store Manager in training, mentoring, and retaining a high-performing sales team.
- Assist with quarterly self-evaluations and mid-year performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of accountability, participation, and continuous learning.
Customer Experience Excellence
- Ensure every customer receives Red Wing’s Legendary Ultimate Fit Experience.
- Proactively resolve customer concerns and monitor feedback channels.
- Build and cultivate long-term customer relationships and lead the team to do the same.
- Promote an inclusive environment that respects diverse backgrounds and experiences.
Operations & Merchandising
- Assist in managing labor and payroll to support profitability goals.
- Execute monthly and seasonal merchandising standards.
- Support store marketing initiatives and community relationship building.
- Assist with staffing, scheduling, reporting, cash handling, and inventory management.
- Maintain inventory integrity through accurate shipping/receiving and cycle counts.
- Help identify and address shrink and inventory discrepancies.
- Provide boot care services, minor repairs, and coordinate warranty work when required.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, standards, and initiatives.
Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of retail leadership experience coaching and developing multiple employees.
- Proven retail sales performance with consistent success achieving or exceeding KPIs.
- Demonstrated ability to coach in the moment and drive team accountability from the sales floor.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and motivate others.
- Confident, customer-focused selling style with a hands-on leadership approach.
- Highly organized with strong follow-through and attention to detail.
- Self-starter who takes initiative and performs effectively with minimal supervision.
- Passion for quality footwear and the Red Wing brand.
- High school diploma or GED required; additional retail training or leadership development preferred.
- Proficient with POS systems, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred:
- Footwear, workwear, or specialty retail experience
- Experience with KPI-driven retail environments
- Experience using fit technology or consultative selling models
Physical Demands
- Lifting 50 pounds
- Climbing an 8ft ladder
- Bending/stooping/kneeling required
- Routine standing for duration of shift (up to 8 hours)
- Store maintenance duties including but not limited to vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning windows and setting up and maintaining displays.
Compensation
- Starting hourly wage: $20/hr
- Weekly KPI bonuses: $50–$100 for achieving team performance goals
