About the Role
We're a growing residential construction company based in Muskoka, and we're looking for a Team Lead to run our job sites.
This is a hands-on role, not a desk job. You'll be on the tools with your crew every day, working across framing, finishing, concrete, and general carpentry. The difference between this role and the rest of the crew is what you carry on top of that: you set the plan for the day, direct the crew, put together material lists, look ahead so the job doesn't stall, coordinate the subtrades, and own the outcome on quality, pace, and safety. When something goes sideways on site, you're the one who sorts it out.
You'll also be the face of Northern Oaks on site. Homeowners will ask you questions, and you'll be the one giving them a straight answer or knowing when to loop in the office.
We're looking for someone who's already been running work, whether as a foreman, a lead hand who got handed the keys, or an owner-operator who's tired of carrying all the risk themselves. You bring the judgment. We'll back you with steady work and the support of an office that isn't going to leave you hanging.
What You'll Be Doing
- Working hands-on across framing, finish carpentry, concrete forming, and interior and exterior finishing. This is a tools-on role every day
- Running day-to-day operations on residential job sites with minimal oversight
- Planning the day and directing the crew, including assigning work, setting the pace, and holding the standard
- Building material lists and takeoffs, placing orders, and making sure materials are on site before the crew needs them
- Looking ahead on the schedule, anticipating the next phase, and making sure nothing stalls the job
- Reading and working from plans and drawings, and flagging issues before they become problems
- Coordinating and scheduling subtrades on site (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.)
- Day-to-day communication with homeowners on site, answering questions and knowing when to bring the office in
- Owning site safety, cleanliness, and quality control
- Developing your Lead Hand and junior crew, teaching them and building the next lead behind you
- Communicating progress, issues, and timelines back to the office clearly and early
- Using our internal software to track crew hours and daily job progress
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of hands-on residential construction experience across multiple trades
- Experience running a jobsite or crew, as a foreman, lead hand, or owner-operator/GC
- Comfortable working independently and making the call on site without waiting for permission
- Strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and safe work practices
- Able to lead a crew and keep people motivated, not just tell them what to do
- Able to work out material lists and quantities off a set of plans
- Presentable and professional with homeowners, since you'll be dealing with them directly on site
- Valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle (own truck an asset)
- Own basic hand and power tools
- WHMIS and working at heights certification, or willingness to obtain
- Based in or willing to commute within the Muskoka region
- Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet for job tracking and crew time entry
Nice to have:
- Red Seal certification or equivalent trade ticket
- Experience with custom homes, cottages, or renovations
- Basic estimating or project scheduling experience
