Manufacturing Technologist
We are seeking a Manufacturing Technologist to support the production of engineered architectural lighting systems and accessories.
The role serves as the technical interface between customers, sales, engineering, purchasing, suppliers, and in-house production teams, ensuring custom lighting orders are accurately reviewed, documented, released, manufactured, and completed in accordance with approved specifications, BOMs, lighting control requirements, electrical safety certification and compliance requirements, quality standards, delivery timelines, and manufacturing instructions prior to fabrication.
This position requires previous experience with lighting products, candidates must be able to interpret lighting project requirements and coordinate technical production details for lighting systems.
Main Duties
Technical Review and Production Release
- Review and evaluate lighting system designs, components, and configurations to ensure compliance with approved engineering specifications, BOMs, and applicable UL, CSA, ETL, or equivalent electrical safety certification requirements, as well as compatibility of fixtures, drivers, controls, accessories, and finishes.
- Review and validate customer orders, architectural lighting specifications, fixture schedules, drawings, BOMs, control requirements, and certification requirements to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or non-compliance prior to production release.
- Prepare and maintain technical production documentation, including BOMs, engineering specifications, fixture details, material requirements, control protocols, and manufacturing release information.
- Release approved production packages to manufacturing and order processing teams, ensuring all documentation is complete and communicating technical requirements, priorities, quality expectations, and delivery timelines.
Production Planning and Coordination
- Support production planning by monitoring order progress, identifying material shortages or substitutions, expediting components, and assisting with prioritization of production schedules.
- Coordinate production and supply chain activities by tracking order status, vendor deliverables, and internal manufacturing progress to ensure materials, components, and documentation are available to meet production timelines.
- Coordinate with suppliers and internal departments to confirm availability and delivery of lighting system components, including drivers, controls, wiring, housings, and accessories.
- Liaise with engineering, sales, purchasing, suppliers, and production teams to resolve technical, material, quality, specification, and scheduling issues related to engineered lighting products.
Quality and Compliance
- Ensure completed production outputs and documentation align with customer requirements, approved specifications, quality standards, certification requirements, and delivery commitments.
- Support quality assurance activities by reviewing product and production requirements, assisting with inspection and documentation, identifying non-conformances, and supporting corrective actions and root cause analysis.
- Support continuous improvement of manufacturing, production documentation, inventory control, and quality management processes for engineered lighting systems.
Employment Requirements
Education
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree or college/technical diploma in engineering, manufacturing, industrial, or electrical/electronic technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience and Technical Knowledge
- Minimum 3 years of experience in manufacturing, engineered products, technical sales support, production planning, quality engineering, project engineering, program planning, or a closely related technical coordination role.
- Minimum 1 year of direct experience with lighting systems, controls, or related lighting or electrical products.
- Experience reviewing or coordinating bills of materials for lighting systems, including luminaires, drivers/power supplies, controls, wiring, mounting hardware, finishes, lenses, diffusers, accessories, labels, and related system components.
- Demonstrated knowledge of lighting systems, controls, fixture performance, electrical characteristics, component compatibility, mounting requirements, and integration of lighting products within the built environment.
- Experience reviewing product specifications, fixture schedules, technical drawings, installation requirements, customer requirements, and project-specific production considerations.
- Experience working with certified lighting products and ensuring production complies with UL, CSA, ETL, or equivalent electrical safety certification requirements and approved product configurations.
- Experience preparing, reviewing, and coordinating technical production documentation, specifications, manufacturing instructions, drawings, quotations, and manufacturing release information.
- Experience coordinating with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, suppliers, sales, customers, and internal departments on custom or engineered product orders.
- Experience managing production schedules, order priorities, material availability, delivery timelines, customer communication, and issue resolution for assigned accounts or projects.
- Experience identifying production or quality issues, reviewing non-conformances, supporting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and maintaining quality documentation or quality records.
Assets
- Certificate or training in quality and process management, business management, manufacturing systems, quality management systems, lighting fundamentals, continuous improvement, or a related field is an asset.
- Knowledge of lighting controls and dimming requirements, including 0-10V, DALI, DMX, phase dimming, low-voltage controls, or equivalent systems is an asset.
- Knowledge of quality management systems such as AS9100, ISO-based quality systems, or equivalent manufacturing quality standards is an asset.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, bills of materials, customer requirements, lighting schedules, production documents, and manufacturing instructions.
- Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and experience with ERP, order management, production scheduling, inventory, quotation, or quality documentation systems.
