What You’ll Do – The Role (Responsibilities)
- Assist technicians at sites, when required e.g. delivering parts to site, helping with load bank tests, equipment set up and repairs such as radiator replacements and coolant changes.
- Upon checking with CSS’s, set up trailers with appropriate Load Bank(s), cable lengths and size. Fill oil/coolant buckets and prepare parts for upcoming jobs. This is performed the afternoon before or early AM prior to scheduled work.
- Always present a professional image, and clearly understand any directions given by technician, never putting yours or the technician’s safety at risk.
- Complete and submit all documentation accurately, completely, and legibly during or immediately following the work assigned.
- Scheduled appointments are to be promptly kept. Should circumstances beyond your control arise, contact the customer and/or Dispatcher/Scheduler prior to the appointment as a courtesy to our customer and other trades people.
- Complete calls and account for your work times daily utilizing field service software.
- Maintain fleet of rental generators ensuring preparedness for dispatch at a moment’s notice.
- Help Generator Rentals division as needed with Generator delivery and running of cables
- Perform selected field-based services on your own, from time to time. The scope of this work will vary with your knowledge and experience.
- Upon return of any trailers, check trailer, cables, and Load Bank(s) for any damage. Initiate repairs and report any deficiencies in writing your manager.
- Assist Technicians loading and unloading, to get in and out of the shop on a timely basis.
- The waste oil and coolant areas are to be kept clean and organized. Assist in emptying the old oil, glycol and ensuring old filters are placed into their respective containers. If the old oil/glycol tanks are full, contact disposal company for emptying.
- You will be using a company vehicle that must be operated in keeping with the Company Policy on “Use of Company Vehicles”. This vehicle is your responsibility when in your care.
- Ensure that the shop truck is well maintained. Call the person responsible for Fleet Management to inform them of any defective operation or service that is required. Any repairs outside of regular maintenance must be pre-approved.
- Treat all equipment and tools with care, signing them out accordingly with the Shipper/Receiver or Service Manager. You must inform the appropriate person if any equipment is damaged or missing.
- All parts are to be signed out and authorized by a parts representative.
- Adhere to all health and safety rules and recommendations. Never make compromises in a situation that is potentially unsafe for yourself or others.
- Always wear company subsidized “green patch” work boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, face shields/ masks and recommend to supervisor any other job-related safety/ protective equipment required.
- The job is not completed until the old oil, glycol and batteries are dumped/placed in their respective containers for proper disposal.
- Participate in other assigned in-house work duties which may include for example, additional warehouse cleanup, assisting with inventory etc.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as may be required from time to time consistent with the position of Generator Service Assistant and the job description and duties set out above.
- In the case of a power outage or declared State of Emergency by any level of Government, be available for work.
- Build long term customer relationships:
Maintain strong customer communication and always inform the customer upon arrival and departure from site.
Promote the company and its products, i.e. maintenance agreements to new and existing customers.
- Take a pro-active approach to resolving any customer complaints or disputes.
- Work with others and company to achieve higher standards, better relationships with customers, and exceed company objectives.
What You Need (Requirement)
- Knowledge of engines, mechanical systems or electrical would be an asset.
- Follow all company health and safety policies, actively participating in the company H&S program.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver's license – Clean driving record.
- Ability to operate large trucks, up to 1 ton and tow equipment.
- Ability to travel outside of the Province and to USA if required for training
- Willingness to attend company appointed training on equipment lines.
- Ability to pass Air-Cooled Generators and Commercial I and II training.
- Ability to pass all Generac courses up to and including Industrial.
Safety Training
- Participate in regular H&S training and pass related competency testing. Example training:
o Arc Flash
o Working at Heights
o PPE
o Electrical Safety
o WHMIS
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required both within and outside province
- After hours On-Call will be required
- Manual dexterity required to achieve site and generator service access.
- Ability to work irregular hours / overtime (7X24 service business).
- Heavy lifting and physical exertion- Required. Lifting or moving up to 100lbs may be required.
- Working with lubricants, coolant, and other chemicals.
- Working on outdoor and indoor generators in all weather conditions.
- Working independently and with others.
- Working in an environment with mandatory safety requirements.
- Manual lifting and moving of parts and material is required. Must be capable of safely lifting maximum limit as set by the MOL.
