Position Summary
The Junior Sous Chef is the bridge between our senior chefs and our line cooks. You will help run daily kitchen operations, ensure food quality stays high, and lead the team during busy shifts. This is a great role for an experienced line cook who is ready to step up into management.
Key Duties and ResponsibilitiesDaily Kitchen Operations
- Lead the line during busy meal rushes to keep food moving fast.
- Cook and plate high-quality dishes that match the restaurant's standards.
- Check food quality and taste dishes before they go out to guests.
- Fill in for other cooks on the line whenever the kitchen gets busy.
Team Leadership & Training
- Train new kitchen staff and teach them your recipes and techniques.
- Watch over line cooks and prep cooks to make sure they do a good job.
- Keep team energy high and help everyone work together during stressful shifts.
- Run the kitchen smoothly when the Head Chef or Sous Chef is away.
Food Safety & Inventory
- Enforce clean habits and make sure the kitchen follows all health department rules.
- Count food inventory and help order new ingredients each week.
- Stop food waste by checking expiration dates and storing food correctly.
- Inspect incoming food deliveries to ensure everything is fresh and correct.
Menu & Admin Tasks
- Help create new dishes and test out fun ideas for seasonal menus.
- Write prep lists for the day so the kitchen is always ready for service.
- Help make work schedules for the kitchen staff if the Head Chef asks.
Qualifications
- 3 years of experience as a Line Cook or Lead Cook in a high-volume kitchen.
- Strong leadership skills and a positive attitude under pressure.
- Valid food safety certification.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50lbs pounds.
- Flexible schedule, including weekends and evenings.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
