The Animal Care Operations Assistant Manager supports the daily management of animal care, exhibit operations, grounds maintenance, and facility assets to ensure exceptional animal welfare, guest experience, workplace safety, and operational efficiency. This role provides leadership to animal care staff and maintenance personnel, oversees zoo infrastructure and vehicle fleet maintenance, and assists with the planning and execution of operational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily animal care activities including husbandry, nutrition, enrichment, and habitat management.
- Monitor animal health and welfare and coordinate with veterinary staff.
- Oversee zoo grounds maintenance, landscaping, pathways, signage, and seasonal operations.
- Coordinate exhibit maintenance, repairs, preventative maintenance, and habitat improvements.
- Manage vehicle and equipment fleet maintenance programs, inspections, and service schedules.
- Supervise animal care staff, including training and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with animal welfare, health and safety, and environmental regulations.
- Assist with budgeting, procurement, reporting, and operational planning.
- Support conservation initiatives, educational programs, and visitor experiences.
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Zoology, Animal Science, Wildlife Management, Biology, Facilities Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in zoo, wildlife park, conservation facility, or related operations.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Knowledge of animal husbandry, grounds maintenance, facility operations, and fleet management.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Availability for weekends, holidays, and emergency call-outs as required.
Pay: $23.00-$25.00 per hour
